Frequently asked questions about this product

Does the drive come with its carrier for installation in the server?
Yes: it is mounted on a Basic Carrier (BC), the format HPE uses for its recent platforms. Check that your 2.5-inch bays accept this type of carrier: the drive is in SFF format, with a capacity of 1.2 TB, and connects over SAS 12 Gbps.
Is the drive firmware protected against tampering?
Yes. The firmware is digitally signed by HPE: this signature certifies that it comes from a trusted source and protects against attacks targeting this level. On an infrastructure that hosts sensitive data, this is a safeguard that matters as much as mechanical reliability.
What testing is the stated reliability of this drive based on?
HPE Server Enterprise drives go through a qualification programme totalling more than 3.35 million hours of testing carried out in in-house laboratories: supplier and HPE qualification plans, reliability demonstration tests, integration tests and pilot tests. It is this level of validation that sets an enterprise drive apart from a consumer drive.
What workloads is this 10,000 rpm drive built for?
It targets Mission Critical and I/O-intensive workloads: transaction processing, databases, Big Data analytics and high-performance computing. These enterprise drives improve server response times and the number of transactions per second. If you need more capacity per bay, the 10K SAS SFF range goes up to 2.4 TB.
What connection do you need to install this drive?
A SAS 12 Gbps interface, the one used by enterprise servers: it connects to a SAS backplane or controller, and its Basic Carrier is designed for mounting in a drive bay. SFF 2.5-inch form factor, air-filled, with 512n sectors.
Does this drive's warranty follow that of the server it is installed in?
No, it is independent: 3 years, regardless of the warranty period of the host server. A drive installed in a machine whose warranty has expired therefore remains covered. It is new and supplied with its invoice; full details in the datasheet (PDF).
