Frequently asked questions about this product
How many memory slots are still free, and how far can the memory be upgraded?
The T16 has two DDR5 SO-DIMM slots and uses only one, with the 16 GB DDR5-5600 module: one slot remains free. You can go up to 64 GB and enable dual-channel mode by adding a second module, as memory is one of the customer-replaceable parts.
Can the SSD be replaced with a larger one, or can a second one be added?
There is only one M.2 2280 slot, occupied by the 512 GB PCIe 4.0 SSD: no second internal drive, but it can be replaced with one of up to 2 TB. The SSD is one of the customer-replaceable parts and supports Opal 2.0 hardware encryption, often a requirement in businesses.
Which parts can you replace yourself without going through a repair workshop?
Six components are listed as customer-replaceable: battery, bottom cover, keyboard, memory, SSD and WWAN module. Replacing the battery, the main wear part, therefore does not require sending the laptop back.
Is the screen a touchscreen, and does it hold up facing a window?
It is not a touchscreen on this reference. The 16-inch IPS panel, however, is anti-glare and reaches 400 nits, with Eyesafe 2.0 low blue light certification: it is built for long days, including in a very bright room or next to a large window.
Is this screen suitable for photo editing or colour work?
Its coverage is 45% NTSC: very good for office work, spreadsheets, the web and video conferencing, but not enough for demanding colour-critical work. For photo editing, plan on an external wide-gamut monitor, connected via HDMI 2.1 or one of the two Thunderbolt 4 ports.
Does the built-in network port go beyond gigabit?
No: the built-in RJ-45 runs at 100/1000 Mbit/s, i.e. gigabit, without 2.5G. The key point is that it is a real on-board Ethernet port: no USB adapter to carry around or buy again.
How long does charging take, and can it be charged through any USB-C port?
The 52.5 Wh battery recovers 80% in 60 minutes with a 65 W or higher adapter, and the one supplied is precisely a 65 W USB-C adapter. The two Thunderbolt 4 ports support USB Power Delivery 3.0: charging works through either one, and the battery remains customer-replaceable.
How many external monitors can be connected, and in 4K?
Three video outputs are available: two USB-C Thunderbolt 4 ports with DisplayPort 2.1 and an HDMI 2.1 up to 4K/60 Hz. A Thunderbolt or universal USB-C docking station lets you connect everything — monitors, network, peripherals — with a single cable to plug in when you arrive at the office.
How is it unlocked, and can the webcam be covered?
Two biometric options: the fingerprint reader built into the power button, with matching performed on the chip itself, and Windows Hello facial recognition via the 5 MP infrared camera. The camera has a physical shutter, complemented by ultrasonic presence detection and a dTPM 2.0 module.
Can a 4G connection be added for working on the move?
Yes, the machine is ready for it: this configuration includes a nano-SIM card slot and the platform is upgradeable with a 4G WWAN module, a module that is one of the customer-replaceable parts. The SIM card itself is not included. A smart card reader is also fitted on this reference.
What does MIL-STD-810H certification actually mean on this ThinkPad?
The chassis, made of polycarbonate with 20% carbon fibre, goes through a battery of military tests: 12 standards, 26 procedures and more than 200 quality checks — shocks, dust, extreme temperatures, pressure, vibration. The keyboard is also spill-resistant, and the chassis has a Kensington Nano lock slot.
Is a 16-inch laptop still easy to carry every day?
It weighs 1.76 kg for 359.7 × 250.8 mm and is 11.8 to 23.65 mm thick: it is undeniably a large laptop, but it charges with a simple 65 W USB-C power adapter, compact and with no proprietary connector. Your bag therefore stays reasonable for a 16-inch screen and a keyboard with a numeric keypad.
Does this model meet the environmental requirements of a public tender?
It combines ENERGY STAR 9.0, EPEAT Gold, TCO Certified 10.0, RoHS and ErP Lot 6/26, with FSC-certified, plastic-free and recyclable primary packaging. On the materials side: 90% recycled plastic in the battery housing and the AC adapter, and 90% recycled magnesium around the keyboard frame.
Is the keyboard AZERTY and backlit, and is there a numeric keypad?
Yes to all three: backlit French AZERTY keyboard, with a numeric keypad made possible by the 16-inch format, a Copilot key and the dual-function ThinkPad TrackPoint. 1.5 mm key travel, a 120 mm touchpad with three buttons and tactile markers on the essential keys.
Is the ThinkPad T16 Gen 4 new, and how long is the warranty?
Yes: a new, sealed machine, supplied with its invoice, which serves as the warranty document for 3 years, and with platform support announced until December 2031. Full details of the 21QE0010FE configuration are in the datasheet (PDF).
