Is the TP-Link EAP650 access point powered by PoE only?
You have the choice: the EAP650 can be connected either via PoE+ (802.3at) to a compatible switch, or with the 12 V power adapter supplied in the box. A single Ethernet cable can thus carry both data and power, which simplifies ceiling installation.
What Wi-Fi 6 speeds does the TP-Link EAP650 reach?
It is a Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax) dual-band AX3000 access point: up to 2402 Mbps on the 5 GHz band and 574 Mbps on 2.4 GHz. These are maximum theoretical rates; actual throughput depends on your devices and the environment.
Do you need an Omada controller to use the EAP650?
The access point is managed via the Omada SDN platform (web interface or Omada app). Note: some advanced features such as seamless roaming, Omada Mesh and the captive portal require an Omada controller (hardware, software or cloud).
Can the EAP650 create a separate guest Wi-Fi network?
Yes. It handles up to 16 SSIDs (8 per band) with a guest network, client isolation, captive portal (SMS, voucher, etc.) and WPA3 encryption, which makes it ideal for a hotel, a café or an office that receives the public.
Does 160 MHz bandwidth (HE160) work with all my devices?
The 160 MHz (HE160) channel doubles throughput at peak times, but only on the 5 GHz band and only if your client devices support this Wi-Fi 6 feature. It may also be restricted by local regulations.
Can the TP-Link EAP650 be installed outdoors?
No, this model is designed for indoor use. It mounts on a ceiling, a wall or a junction box using the included mounting kits, with an ultra-slim design measuring 160 mm in diameter and 33.6 mm thick.
How much electricity does the EAP650 access point use?
Its power consumption is low, about 13.5 W (EU version), which makes it economical to leave on permanently in a professional environment.
Is the EAP650 still compatible with older Wi-Fi devices?
Yes, it is backward compatible: it supports the 802.11ax/ac/n/g/b/a standards. Your Wi-Fi 5 or older devices connect to it without any problem, while Wi-Fi 6 devices get the maximum speeds.
