Does the 2.5 GbE port limit the advertised 4.3 Gbps of Wi-Fi 7?

Yes. The 5 GHz radio reaches 4.3 Gbps on a 240 MHz channel and the 2.4 GHz radio 688 Mbps, but the uplink is a single 2.5 GbE RJ45 port: traffic to the wired network tops out there. Connect it to a switch with a 2.5 Gbps port to get the most out of it.

How do you power the U7 Lite?

By PoE, through its RJ45 port: it draws 13 W maximum and accepts a voltage of 42.5 to 57 V DC. Power and data travel over the same cable, but you then need a port that is both PoE and 2.5 Gbps so as not to hold the access point back.

Is the mounting bracket supplied, and where can it be mounted?

Yes, the Lite mount is included and allows both ceiling and wall mounting. The access point measures Ø 171.5 × 33 mm and weighs 313 g; its housing is made of UV-stabilised polycarbonate, the mount of polycarbonate and SGCC galvanised steel. A white or blue status LED shows that it is operating.

Will my Wi-Fi 5 and Wi-Fi 6 devices benefit too?

Yes. The U7 Lite supports 802.11be (Wi-Fi 7), 802.11ax, 802.11ac and 802.11n, with 2×2 uplink and downlink MU-MIMO on the 2.4 and 5 GHz bands. A Wi-Fi 6 laptop reaches up to 2.4 Gbps, a Wi-Fi 5 one up to 1.7 Gbps, and an old 802.11n device is still served at up to 300 Mbps.

How many connected devices can it really handle?

More than 200 concurrent clients over an area of 115 m², with 8 BSSIDs per radio to broadcast more networks. Transmit power reaches 24 dBm on 5 GHz and 23 dBm on 2.4 GHz, with 5 and 4 dBi antennas. It is sized for an office, a coworking space or a public venue.

If I install several of them, will my phone switch over without dropping out?

Yes. 802.11r (fast roaming), 802.11v (BSS Transition Management) and 802.11k (RRM) are supported, complemented by band steering and advanced radio management. A call or video call continues while the device changes access point, and wireless meshing lets you extend coverage without cabling every point.

Can you create a guest Wi-Fi network with access vouchers, like in a hotel?

Yes. The captive portal accepts voucher, password or paid authentication, with a landing page that can be customised in your colours and support for an external portal. Guest network isolation, bandwidth limiting and broadcast schedules round out the package.

Can it be linked without running a network cable to it?

Wireless meshing lets you connect it over the air to another UniFi device, with no data cable. Its power, however, comes via PoE, through the RJ45 port: you still need to run a cable to the access point.

Which version of UniFi Network do you need to manage it?

UniFi Network 9.0.114 or later — a requirement to check before buying if your console is still running an older branch, and to update before commissioning. On mobile, you need at least the iOS 10.20.2 or Android 10.21.7 app.

Can it be mounted in a loft or a very hot room?

Watch the temperature ceiling: the operating range stops at 40 °C, at 5 to 95% non-condensing humidity. At the low end, it goes down to -30 °C: it is heat that dictates where it can go. Under an uninsulated roof in summer, it is best to give it a ventilated spot.

Is the U7 Lite suitable for a demanding business network?

It is NDAA-compliant and CE, FCC, IC, SRRC and Anatel-certified (No. 02143-25-08356). On the security side: private pre-shared keys (PPSK), dynamic VLANs assigned by RADIUS, RADIUS over TLS (RadSec), client isolation and Passpoint (Hotspot 2.0) support.

Is the U7 Lite access point new and covered by a warranty?

Yes: the U7-Lite is new and sealed in its original packaging, supplied with its invoice. The invoice serves as the warranty document, for one year. The box contains the access point and its Lite mount for ceiling or wall mounting.
