Do I need to buy an additional PoE injector for the EAP225?
No, a power adapter is supplied in the box, along with the mounting kits and the installation guide. The access point accepts either an 802.3af switch or 24 V passive PoE: you choose the option that suits what you already have.
How much power does the EAP225 draw, and can it run on a small PoE switch?
10.5 W at most, well below the 15.4 W of an 802.3af port: an entry-level PoE switch will do. Just check the switch's total PoE budget when several access points share the same allowance.
Does the EAP225's Mesh mode work straight out of the box?
It requires a firmware update if the access point predates version V3-2.4.0. Once updated, the access points relay one another and choose the best path for the data on their own, so one can be placed where no cable reaches.
How many Wi-Fi networks can be created on an EAP225?
16 SSIDs, eight per band, with VLAN assignment per SSID, rate limiting and access control. The visitors' network thus stays segregated, and client isolation prevents connected devices from seeing one another.
How can guests who connect to the Wi-Fi network be identified?
Through the captive portal, which displays a landing page before access is granted. Authentication can be done by SMS or with a Facebook account, which avoids handing out a password and provides an identifiable contact for each connection.
Can Wi-Fi be scheduled to switch off at night?
Yes, schedules turn Wi-Fi on or off, and an automatic reboot can be scheduled during off-peak hours. Useful in a school or a shop that closes, both for power consumption and to limit connections outside opening hours.
Does the EAP225 distribute devices between the 2.4 and 5 GHz bands?
Yes, band steering automatically moves compatible devices to the less congested band, and load balancing prevents one access point from becoming saturated while a neighbouring one is free. Airtime fairness stops a slow device from slowing down all the others.
How can several EAP225 units be managed without additional hardware?
With the free Omada software controller, installed on a computer: it manages around a hundred access points from a single interface, with network mapping and email alerts. The OC200 and OC300 hardware controllers and the cloud controller are the other options.
Does cloud management work on all versions of the EAP225?
The Omada cloud controller, and with it zero-touch deployment, is supported from hardware versions V3.0 and V4.0 of the access point. Version V3.20 is excluded: check the label on the housing before building a multi-site deployment on this basis.
Does the EAP225 flag a rogue access point installed on the premises?
Yes, rogue access point detection spots unauthorised access points broadcasting within range. On top of this come MAC address filtering, access control and 802.1X support to authenticate each user against a server.
What monitoring tools does the EAP225 offer a network administrator?
Web access via HTTP or HTTPS, an SSH connection, SNMP v1 and v2c, a local or remote system log, email alerts and wireless statistics per SSID, per access point and per client. The LEDs can be turned off where they are a nuisance.
In what temperature conditions does the EAP225 operate?
From 0 to 60 °C, with 10 to 90% non-condensing humidity: a poorly ventilated equipment room or a hot false ceiling pose no difficulty. The access point remains designed for indoor use and mounts on the ceiling or wall, kits supplied.
Is the equipment new and under warranty?
Yes, new equipment, with the invoice serving as the warranty document for 1 year. The access point fits into the Omada ecosystem alongside the range's switches and gateways, all managed from the same interface.
