Does the GWN7615 require a PoE+ switch, or is standard PoE enough?
802.3af PoE is enough: the access point draws 12.5 W at most, below the 15.4 W of an af port. It automatically detects whether it is connected to PoE or PoE+ and adjusts its power accordingly, with no setting required on your part.
What is in the Grandstream GWN7615 box?
The access point, the wall and ceiling mounting kits and the quick start guide. Mounting is therefore covered in both positions; the switch or injector that will supply PoE, however, must be provided separately.
What does 3x3:3 MU-MIMO change compared with a 2x2 access point?
Three radio chains instead of two, on each of the two bands: the access point serves more devices in parallel and pushes throughput to 1,300 Mbps on 5 GHz and 450 Mbps on 2.4 GHz, i.e. 1.75 Gbps combined. Beamforming also focuses the signal towards each detected device.
How many devices can the GWN7615 handle at the same time?
More than 200 concurrent Wi-Fi clients per access point. That is the scale of a busy open-plan office floor, a classroom or a shop; beyond that, several GWN7615 units coordinate under the same controller.
Is the advertised 175-metre range realistic indoors?
It is a range in open space, and it varies considerably with the environment: partitions, reinforced concrete and glass walls reduce it markedly. In partitioned offices, think in terms of the number of access points per floor rather than in metres, with a site survey before installation.
Is a hardware controller needed to manage several GWN7615 units?
No. A controller is built into the web interface of the access point and manages up to 50 GWN access points on the local network, with no additional hardware or licence. GWN.Cloud manages an unlimited number of devices free of charge, and GWN Manager, installed on your servers, scales up to 3,000 access points.
What are the two Gigabit ports of the GWN7615 for?
The first connects the access point to the network and receives PoE; the second, also 10/100/1000 Mbps auto-sensing, serves a nearby wired device — a desktop, a network printer or a small switch. This saves running a second cable up to the ceiling.
Can the guest network be separated from the company network?
Yes: up to 16 SSIDs per access point, with 802.1Q VLAN tagging, 802.1x authentication and a captive portal for visitors. Each network thus has its own rules, without going through any additional equipment.
Is the GWN7615 suitable for Wi-Fi phones and video conferencing?
Yes, it is even one of its strong points: advanced QoS (802.11e/WMM, VLAN, TOS) reserves bandwidth for real-time streams and keeps latency low, which secures calls from Wi-Fi IP phones and video meetings.
How is the GWN7615 protected against hardware hacking?
By secure boot and the locking of critical data and controls with a digital signature, as well as by a unique security certificate and a random password specific to each device: two access points from the same batch therefore do not share the same factory password.
Which Wi-Fi encryption does the GWN7615 support?
WPA2-PSK for a shared-key network and WPA/WPA2 Enterprise for server-based authentication, with each user then having their own credentials. The legacy WEP and WPA modes remain available for older equipment, but they no longer offer much protection.
Can this access point be installed in a lobby open to the public?
It is designed for indoor use, between 0 and 40 °C, and has a Kensington lock to secure it against theft, as well as an unobtrusive pinhole reset button. Its three tri-colour LEDs allow a quick visual diagnosis from the floor.
How much space does the GWN7615 take up on the ceiling?
A disc measuring 205.4 × 205.4 mm and 45.9 mm thick, weighing 500 g. It mounts on the ceiling or wall, indoors, and its three 3 dBi dual-band antennas are built in: nothing protrudes from the housing.
Is the equipment new and under warranty?
