Is the PoE injector supplied with the UAP-AC-HD?
Yes, a PoE adapter is included, so you can connect the access point without a PoE switch. It accepts PoE+ 802.3at for 17 W maximum, with an input voltage of 44 to 57 V DC.
What difference does the UAP-AC-HD's 4x4 MU-MIMO make in a full room?
It runs in 4x4 on both bands — eight spatial streams in total — and serves several devices in the same time slot rather than one after another. This is what allows it to claim more than 500 clients over 140 m².
What data rate does the UAP-AC-HD reach on each band?
1.7 Gbps on the 5 GHz band, with 80 MHz channels, and 800 Mbps on 2.4 GHz with 40 MHz channels. This is Wi-Fi 5 Wave 2: the gain lies in capacity in a busy room more than in the speed of a single device.
What is the second Ethernet port on the UAP-AC-HD for?
Both ports are Gigabit: the first connects the access point to the network and receives PoE, the second acts as a bridge for a nearby wired device — a desktop PC or a small switch in the same room.
Is the mounting bracket supplied with the UAP-AC-HD?
Yes, the Pro mount is included, for ceiling or wall installation, and it is compatible with UAP-AC-PRO mounts — handy for replacing an existing access point without drilling new holes. Allow 220 mm in diameter by 48 mm, 700 g on its own and 830 g with its mount.
Can you give each user a different Wi-Fi password?
Yes, thanks to PPSK — private pre-shared key: a single network accepts several passwords, each identifying a user or a device. Revoking one person's access then does not force anyone else to change their key.
How do you set up paid or time-limited guest access?
The captive portal can be customised with your branding and accepts authentication by access vouchers, password, online payment or via an external server. The guest network is isolated, and devices can also be isolated from one another.
Does the UAP-AC-HD integrate with enterprise RADIUS authentication?
Yes, with dynamic VLAN assignment via RADIUS and support for RadSec, which encrypts communication with the authentication server using TLS. Passpoint is also supported for automatic connection of recognised devices.
How many Wi-Fi networks can this access point broadcast?
8 networks per radio, or up to 16 across the two bands. Each one can be given its own bandwidth cap and activation schedule — enough to switch off a guest network outside opening hours.
Does the connection hold when moving between several UniFi access points?
Yes: 802.11r fast roaming, 802.11v transition management and 802.11k radio resource measurement switch the device over to the best access point without re-authentication. Band steering also pushes compatible devices onto the 5 GHz band.
Can you add an access point where no network cable reaches?
Yes, wireless mesh allows an access point to connect to the network over the air. It still needs to be powered on site, but no cable has to be run: useful for covering an annex or an isolated room.
Do you need a controller to manage the UAP-AC-HD?
The access point is managed with the UniFi controller, as software or hosted, which centralises configuration, monitoring and updates for all your devices. Management is done over the Ethernet network, or over Wi-Fi during initial setup.
Is the equipment new and covered by a warranty?
Yes, new equipment, with the invoice serving as the warranty document for 1 year. The access point is NDAA compliant and CE, FCC, IC and Anatel certified; the details are given in this document: UAP-AC-HD (PDF).
