Why does the Aruba AP-515 have a 2.5 Gbps port?
Because its radios add up to 2.69 Gbps: a Gigabit port would become the network bottleneck. The E0 Smart Rate port negotiates up to 2.5 Gbps over a standard RJ45 cable, and a second 10/100/1000 Mbps E1 port completes the connectivity.
What difference does the AP-515's 4x4 MIMO make in a crowded room?
Four spatial streams instead of two: the access point communicates with more devices in parallel, over channels of up to 160 MHz. Combined with Wi-Fi 6 OFDMA and MU-MIMO, this is what keeps an open-plan office or a training centre running when everyone connects at the same time.
How is the AP-515 powered?
Through the network cable, using PoE+ 802.3at: a single Ethernet link delivers both power and data, with no power outlet needed on the ceiling. You will need a PoE+ switch or an injector, and should check the switch's PoE budget if several access points are connected to it.
Does the AP-515 support Bluetooth or Zigbee IoT devices?
Yes, a Bluetooth 5 and 802.15.4 (Zigbee) radio is built in: sensors, asset-tracking tags and location services work without an additional gateway. A USB 2.0 Type-A interface also lets you connect an external module.
Can this access point be installed in the plenum of a suspended ceiling?
Yes, it carries the UL 2043 plenum rating, required for equipment placed in the air-return space above a suspended ceiling. Engineering consultants insist on this for commercial buildings and healthcare facilities.
Is the AP-515 suitable for a hospital or an industrial environment?
It is certified to EN 60601-1-1 and EN 60601-1-2, the electromagnetic compatibility standards for medical equipment, and the AP-515 itself carries the railway certifications EN 50155, EN 50121 and IEC 61373 (shock and vibration). Few office access points combine these two fields.
Do you need an on-site controller to deploy several AP-515 units?
The range is managed from HPE Aruba Networking Central, a cloud platform that brings campuses, branches, remote sites and IoT devices together on a single dashboard. Zero-touch provisioning lets you ship an access point to a remote site and configure it remotely as soon as it is plugged in.
How can you isolate IoT devices from the rest of the network without multiplying VLANs?
Through dynamic segmentation: the access policy follows the user or the device instead of being fixed to a VLAN, an access control list or a subnet. Policy enforcement firewalls apply it in the same way across wired and wireless.
What does this access point's ClientMatch technology do?
It solves the problem of devices that stay attached to a distant access point when another one is closer: ClientMatch steers them to the access point with the strongest signal. The benefit is most noticeable on the move, in a corridor or between two rooms.
What level of security does the AP-515 bring to guest access?
It supports WPA3 in Personal and Enterprise versions, as well as Enhanced Open (OWE), which encrypts an open network without requiring visitors to enter a password. A TPM module stores credentials, keys and boot code safely isolated from the rest of the system.
Is the Wi-Fi 6 TWT feature available on the AP-515?
Yes. Target Wake Time schedules when devices wake up instead of leaving them listening constantly: battery-powered sensors and IoT devices last considerably longer between charges, with no configuration needed on each device.
How much space does the AP-515 take up, and do its antennas stick out of the housing?
A 200 × 200 mm square, 46 mm thick, weighing 810 g. Its four antennas are built in, omnidirectional and downward-facing, with a gain of 4.2 dBi on 2.4 GHz and 7.5 dBi on 5 GHz: nothing sticks out, which suits an office ceiling.
Can you connect a console cable to this access point for troubleshooting?
Yes, it has a serial console interface on a micro-USB Type-B connector, useful when the access point no longer shows up on the network. A Kensington security lock also lets you secure it against theft in an accessible location.
Is the equipment new and covered by a warranty?
Yes, new equipment, with the invoice serving as the warranty document. The access point is Wi-Fi CERTIFIED for the a, b, g, n, ac and ax standards, as well as Wi-Fi Agile Multiband and Wi-Fi CERTIFIED Location.
