How can the EAP653 be powered if no PoE port is available?
Three options: PoE+ 802.3at through the network cable, 48 V passive PoE, or a local 12 V DC power supply. The access point adapts to whatever you have, with no change of hardware.
Is the EAP653 easy to mount on the ceiling?
Yes, the mounting kit is included and the access point locks onto its bracket with a simple twist, tool-free once the base plate is in place. Wall mounting is also supported.
What are the advertised 2,402 Mbps on the EAP653's 5 GHz band worth?
It is the theoretical data rate of the 5 GHz radio in Wi-Fi 6, to which 574 Mbps on 2.4 GHz is added. Watch out for the bottleneck: the access point has only one Gigabit Ethernet port, so traffic to the wired network is capped at 1 Gbps, whatever the radio speed.
How many antennas does the EAP653 have, and are they visible?
They are internal and omnidirectional: four 5 dBi antennas for the 5 GHz band and four 4 dBi antennas for the 2.4 GHz band. Nothing protrudes from the housing, which suits an office ceiling or a hotel lobby.
What does the EAP653's Wi-Fi 6 bring when many devices connect?
OFDMA serves several devices in the same time slot rather than one after another, MU-MIMO addresses them in parallel over two streams per band, and 1024-QAM modulation packs in more data. The gain is felt mainly at peak times.
How many Wi-Fi networks can be created on the EAP653?
16 SSIDs, eight per band, including a separate guest network. Each SSID gets its own authentication mode and segmentation, so you can separate staff, visitors and equipment on a single access point.
Does the EAP653 support WPA3 and encrypted open networks?
Yes, both WPA3-Personal and WPA3-Enterprise, as well as WPA and WPA2 in both variants. It also supports OWE, which encrypts the session on an open guest network without requiring visitors to enter a password.
Is a controller needed to manage several EAP653 units?
You have a choice: a software controller on a computer, a hardware controller, a cloud controller or the mobile app. The Omada SDN ecosystem brings access points, switches and gateways together in a single interface, with automatic provisioning and batch configuration.
Does the EAP653 flag a rogue access point installed on the premises?
Yes, rogue access point detection spots any unauthorised access point broadcasting within range. It is a useful alert in a space open to the public, where a visitor can plug in their own equipment without warning.
Can an access point be added where no network cable reaches?
Yes, the EAP653 supports mesh: the new access point connects to the network wirelessly rather than by cable. It must still be powered on site, and seamless roaming moves devices from one access point to another without interruption.
Can the EAP653 be deployed at a remote site without a technician?
Yes, Omada SDN's zero-touch provisioning lets you ship the access point to the site, have it plugged in by a non-specialist, then configure it remotely as soon as it appears on the controller.
Is the equipment new and under warranty?
