Is the power adapter supplied with the EAP610?
Yes, the box contains the access point, a power adapter, the ceiling and wall mounting kits and the installation guide. You can therefore power it from 12 V DC if no PoE port is available, or over the network cable with 802.3at PoE+.
How much power does the EAP610 consume depending on its power source?
12.8 W on PoE and 10.8 W on the AC adapter, for the European version. The difference is due to PoE line losses. Plan for an 802.3at port: this is the standard specified for the access point's Gigabit port.
Do the EAP610's Mesh and roaming features work without a controller?
No: Omada Mesh and seamless roaming require an Omada controller — software, OC200/OC300 hardware or cloud. A standalone access point broadcasts Wi-Fi perfectly well, but these two features are only enabled once the access point has been adopted by a controller.
Do you need recent devices to benefit from the EAP610's Wi-Fi 6?
Yes for OFDMA and MU-MIMO: these features only deliver their full effect if the client device supports them too. An older laptop will connect normally, over Wi-Fi 5 or Wi-Fi 4, without the efficiency gain in a busy environment.
How much ceiling space does the EAP610 take up?
243 × 243 mm and 64 mm thick: it is a disc noticeably wider than the average ceiling access point, worth checking if you are targeting a specific suspended ceiling tile. The ceiling and wall mounting kits are included.
Does the EAP610 support WPA3 and enterprise authentication?
Yes, in WPA3-Personal and WPA3-Enterprise, as well as WPA and WPA2 in both variants, with 802.1X support. Rogue access point detection and MAC address filtering complete the protection.
How do you set up a controlled guest network on the EAP610?
Through the captive portal, with authentication by SMS, Facebook account or voucher. The guest network has its own SSID, mapped to a VLAN, with a rate limit and client isolation.
How many Wi-Fi networks can the EAP610 broadcast?
16 SSIDs, eight per band, each of which can be assigned its own VLAN and rate limit. Enough to separate staff, visitors, point of sale and IoT devices on a single access point, with no additional hardware.
Does zero-touch deployment work on all versions?
It runs through the Omada cloud controller and applies to hardware versions V1, V2 and V2.2 and later of the EAP610; version V3 is excluded. Check the label on the enclosure before basing a multi-site deployment on it.
What monitoring tools does the EAP610 offer an administrator?
HTTP/HTTPS web access, SSH, SNMP v1, v2c and v3, local or remote system logging, email alerts and statistics per SSID, per access point and per client. The LEDs can be switched off on demand, and multi-site management is supported.
Does the EAP610 balance devices between its two bands?
Yes, band steering directs compatible devices to the less congested 5 GHz band, and load balancing prevents one access point from becoming saturated while a neighbouring one is free. Airtime fairness and beamforming complete the set.
In what environment can the EAP610 be installed?
Indoors, between 0 and 40 °C, with 10 to 90% non-condensing humidity. Its antennas are internal and omnidirectional — 2 × 4 dBi on 2.4 GHz and 2 × 5 dBi on 5 GHz — so nothing protrudes from the enclosure once it is mounted.
