What do you lose by powering the AP371 from an 802.3af PoE port?
The access point works, but with restrictions: its USB port becomes unavailable. To have all its features, power it with PoE+ 802.3at or a 12 V adapter. Its power consumption reaches 13.6 W, excluding the USB port.
What is the AP371's USB port for?
For connecting an additional peripheral directly to the access point, without extra cabling — a service key or an IoT module depending on the deployment. It is only active when the access point has its full power, so not on 802.3af PoE.
Does this Wi-Fi 7 access point transmit on the 6 GHz band?
No, it is dual-band: 2.88 Gbps on 5 GHz and 689 Mbps on 2.4 GHz, i.e. 3.57 Gbps combined over four spatial streams. Wi-Fi 7 brings it 4096-QAM modulation and the efficiency of the 802.11be standard, not the third band.
What does Wi-Fi 7 4096-QAM modulation bring to this access point?
Each symbol carries 12 bits versus 10 with 1024-QAM, i.e. a data rate gain of around 20% at equivalent coding. The benefit shows at short range, where the signal is clean; it fades as soon as the device moves away from the access point.
What do the AP371's smart antennas do?
They adjust the direction and strength of the signal on their own using a switching algorithm, following users' movements and changes in the environment. Their gain reaches 4 dBi on 2.4 GHz and 5 dBi on 5 GHz, all built into the housing.
Why is the AP371's network port 2.5 Gbps?
Because the radio exceeds Gigabit: with 3.57 Gbps combined, a 1 Gbps port would have become the bottleneck. The port negotiates 100 Mbps, 1 Gbps or 2.5 Gbps depending on the switch at the other end, and it is this port that receives PoE.
How many Wi-Fi networks can the AP371 broadcast?
10 SSIDs per radio, with VLAN assignment per SSID and the option to hide a network. Each network carries its own access rules: staff, visitors and connected devices stay segregated on the same access point.
What security protections does the AP371 include?
WPA3 in Personal and Enterprise versions, PPSK (one key per user), 802.1X, PMF protected management frames, DHCP snooping and WIDS/WIPS wireless intrusion detection, which spots and blocks rogue access points within range.
Does the connection hold when moving between several AP371 access points?
Yes: 802.11r fast roaming moves the device from one access point to another in less than 50 ms, without re-authentication. The 802.11k and 802.11v mechanisms complete the setup by steering the device to the best available access point.
Can the data rate of certain users be limited on the AP371?
Yes: bandwidth limiting, airtime scheduling and HQoS, which prioritises traffic by queue. A video conferencing stream thus keeps its bandwidth even when a large download is occupying the network.
How is the AP371 managed day to day?
Through Huawei cloud management — mobile app or SNC platform —, the recommended mode for this model, or in Fit AP mode managed by a controller. The access point joins the network automatically when plugged in, and management also runs over SNMP, SSHv2 and SFTP.
How much ceiling space does the AP371 take up, and can it handle high altitude?
A disc 180 mm in diameter and 35 mm thick. It operates from -10 to +50 °C, with 5 to 95% non-condensing humidity, and up to 5,000 m altitude: a mountain site or a non-air-conditioned storeroom remain within its range.
