Frequently asked questions about this product

How many free memory slots are there, and can it go beyond 16 GB?
The 16 GB is split between 8 GB soldered to the motherboard and 8 GB on the single SO-DIMM module. There is therefore no free slot: upgrading the memory means replacing this 8 GB module, after removing the bottom cover. The 8 GB soldered on board stays in place regardless.
Is this a laptop you can keep for a long time, repair and upgrade?
It has a repairability index of 9.6/10 on the French scale. In practice, the bottom cover opens to reach the SO-DIMM module and the SSD — an M.2 2280 PCIe 4.0 ×4 drive, which can be replaced with a higher-capacity model without changing computers.
Is the screen bright enough to work near a window or edit photos?
Best to know before buying: the 15.6" Full HD IPS panel is anti-glare but tops out at 250 nits and covers only 45% of NTSC. Excellent indoors for office work; in direct sunlight or for demanding colour work, it quickly shows its limits.
Does the screen strain your eyes over long working days?
It is TÜV Rheinland certified for low blue light emissions and guaranteed flicker-free, with an anti-glare surface, 178° viewing angles and an 82% screen-to-body ratio. The refresh rate is 60 Hz, the standard for office work.
What does the MIL-STD-810H compliance claimed for this Vivobook really mean?
The chassis is declared compliant with the US MIL-STD 810H military standard, a benchmark for resistance to the stresses of use. It is not a promise of indestructibility: the lid and underside remain plastic, for a moderate weight of 1.70 kg (1.50 kg without the battery).
Is there an Ethernet port for a network cable?
No, there is no RJ-45 socket on this Vivobook 15. Networking relies on tri-band Wi-Fi 6E (1×1 antenna) or on a USB-to-Ethernet adapter to be added. Bluetooth 5.3 is built in for a mouse, a headset or tethering.
Which port do I use for an external monitor or a projector?
The HDMI 1.4 output, the machine's only dedicated video output. The rest of the connectivity comprises 2 USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A ports (5 Gbps), 1 USB 2.0 Type-A (480 Mbps), 1 USB-C 3.2 Gen 1 with Power Delivery support, and a 3.5 mm combo audio jack.
Is the keyboard AZERTY and comfortable for long typing sessions?
Yes: a chiclet AZERTY keyboard with numeric keypad, designed according to the ErgoSense approach — 19.05 mm between key centres, the same spacing as a desktop keyboard, keys with a 0.2 mm dish and 1.4 mm of actuation travel. The touchpad is a Precision Touchpad.
Is there a fingerprint reader to sign in?
No, there is no fingerprint reader or any other biometric recognition on this reference. Protection relies on the BIOS password, the firmware TPM and the physical shutter covering the 720p HD webcam: it slides closed over the lens with a fingertip, with no software or settings needed.
Is ASUS antibacterial treatment a marketing claim or a measured fact?
It is measured: this silver-ion treatment was tested by an independent laboratory to the ISO 22196 standard, with inhibition of bacterial growth above 99% over 24 hours (E. coli and Staphylococcus aureus). It covers the palm rest, keyboard and touchpad, and is designed to last at least three years of use.
Is the battery removable, and which charger do I need to take with me?
The 42 Wh, 3-cell Li-ion battery is not removable: it stays inside the chassis. The included charger is a 65 W (19 V / 3.42 A) unit with a 4.5 mm round DC connector and a universal 100-240 V input — so it can be used when travelling with a simple plug adapter.
Does this Vivobook get hot or noisy under sustained load?
Cooling relies on two heat pipes and a fan with 87 IceBlades blades, 0.2 mm thick and made of liquid-crystal polymer, mounted on a fluid dynamic bearing. ASUS claims 30% more airflow and 10% less noise than a conventional fan, and MyASUS lets you choose the fan profile.
Are Windows and the Office suite included with the computer?
Windows 11 Home is indeed preinstalled and included. Microsoft 365, however, is limited to a one-month trial for new subscribers, alongside McAfee (30 days) and a one-month Adobe Creative Cloud trial. Once these periods end, a subscription is required to continue.
Can this laptop be used for gaming or video editing?
It has no dedicated graphics card: display relies on the integrated Intel UHD Graphics, using shared memory. The H-series Core i5-13420H (8 cores, 12 threads, up to 4.6 GHz, 12 MB of cache) handles office work and multitasking very well, but 3D gaming and video rendering are not its territory.
