Frequently asked questions about this product

Does the iPad (A16)'s USB-C port allow fast transfers?
No, it remains USB 2.0, i.e. 480 Mbps. It connects an external drive, a dock or a display without any problem, but copying several tens of gigabytes takes considerably longer than on a USB 3 port. For regular 4K editing, it is better to work on the 256 GB of internal storage.
Can you use a 1st-generation Apple Pencil on this iPad?
Yes, but with an adapter. The Apple Pencil (1st generation) requires the USB-C to Apple Pencil Adapter to work on the iPad (A16); the Apple Pencil (USB-C), by contrast, connects directly. The styluses and the adapter are sold separately. With either one, Smart Script makes handwritten notes more legible.
Does the iPad (A16) support Apple Intelligence?
No. Apple Intelligence is offered on the iPad Pro, iPad Air and iPad mini in the range, not on this iPad. The A16 chip and its 16-core Neural Engine do, however, handle everyday on-device processing: Live Text, Visual Look Up in your photos and 4K video editing.
Does the display advertised as 11 inches really measure 11 inches?
10.86 inches exactly. The corners of the panel are rounded: measured diagonally as a full rectangle, it is 10.86 inches, and the actual viewable area is slightly smaller. You get 2360 × 1640 pixels at 500 nits, with True Tone adjusting the colours to the light in the room.
Are the display's colours P3, as on the iPad Pro?
No, the display covers sRGB. It is the colour space of the web and office work: perfect for reading, drawing, working or watching series. The P3 of the iPad Air and iPad Pro goes further on saturated colours, which matters mainly for photo editing. True Tone is present on both.
How is the all-day battery life measured on the iPad (A16)?
Using two tests: looped playback of a 2 h 23 min film and browsing twenty popular websites on Wi-Fi, with the battery fully drained, brightness set to 50% and auto-brightness turned off. It is a laboratory measurement: your real-world battery life depends on brightness, the network and the apps you have open.
Do the stereo speakers also work in portrait orientation?
Stereo separation works in landscape mode: it is with the tablet held horizontally that you get a true left-right soundstage, for a film or a video call. Held vertically, the sound remains decent but loses that depth. The built-in microphones also let you record a track or a podcast.
Is the Magic Keyboard Folio supplied with the iPad (A16)?
No, it is sold separately. Its modular two-piece design combines a detachable keyboard and an adjustable back panel with stand, with a row of 14 function keys and a fully clickable trackpad. It attaches magnetically, so you can remove the keyboard and keep just the back panel.
Can you play games with a controller on the iPad (A16)?
Yes. iPadOS Game Mode delivers more consistent frame rates in graphically demanding games, and you can pair your controller. SharePlay also lets you invite friends and family to watch the game or join in. The A16 chip's 4-core GPU does the rest.
How do you unlock the 11-inch iPad (A16)?
With Touch ID, the fingerprint reader built into the top button: a press is all it takes to unlock the tablet and approve a purchase. It works the same way whether the iPad is held in your hand or lying flat on a desk in its case, without having to lift it up to your face.
How much does the iPad (A16) weigh, and is it easy to carry?
477 g and 7 mm thick, in a 24.86 × 17.95 cm recycled aluminium chassis. It is the size of a large notebook: it slips into a backpack without weighing it down and can be held without tiring during a film. Add the weight of the keyboard case if you get one.
Is 6 GB of memory enough for several open apps?
Yes, for everyday use: the 6 GB of RAM keep several apps active and you pick up where you left off. With the A16 chip — 5-core CPU, 4-core GPU — the iPad takes 4K video editing, annotating a document with the stylus and switching from one app to another in its stride.
Is this iPad new, and what warranty applies?
Yes, new and sealed, covered by a 1-year warranty; your invoice serves as proof. The chassis is made of recycled aluminium, in line with the carbon neutrality trajectory Apple is targeting across all its products by 2030.
