A pocket SSD
that fears neither water nor drops.

The SD810 fits in your hand: 72.7 × 44 × 12.24 mm and 41.7 g, smaller than a credit card. On a USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 port, it reads and writes at up to 2,000 MB/s, around twenty times a conventional external hard drive according to ADATA, in a silver aluminium enclosure certified IP68.

Heavy files, edited on the spot

At 2,000 MB/s, high-definition videos and photos can be edited and retouched straight from the drive, without copying them to the computer first. The aluminium alloy enclosure dissipates heat to keep the transfer rate stable during long copies. To reach these speeds, the computer needs a USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 port and the UASP driver; on a slower port, the drive works at the port's pace.

Water, dust and a fall from the table

IP68 certification makes it virtually dust-tight and lets it stay up to 60 minutes under more than one metre of water, on one condition: the USB port cover must be closed. Against shocks, it meets the MIL-STD-810G 516.6 standard, whose tests drop the device from 1.22 metres. Enough to take it hiking, on an outdoor shoot or by the water.

From PC to phone, by way of the console

The USB Type-C port connects it to Windows 10 and 11, to macOS 13 or later after formatting, to Linux from kernel 6 and to Android 13 or later. On a latest-generation console, it holds the games that no longer fit in the internal storage. Two cables are supplied, USB-C to USB-C and USB-C to USB-A, and the drive is powered by the port, with no power adapter.

Frequently asked questions about this product

Will my computer reach the stated 2,000 MB/s?
Only on a USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 (20 Gbit/s) port with a UASP driver. On a 10 Gbit/s USB 3.2 Gen 2 port, throughput is capped by the port; on a USB 2.0 port, the drive works but slowly. Before buying for speed, check for the 20 Gbit/s mention on your Type-C port in your computer's specifications. Actual speeds vary with the computer's configuration.
Is the SD810 really waterproof?
Yes, it is IP68 certified: virtually dust-tight and submersible deeper than 1 metre for 60 minutes. One condition is essential: the USB port cover must be properly closed. With a cable plugged in, the port is open and the water and dust protection no longer applies, keep this in mind outdoors or when travelling. The cover is attached to the enclosure and cannot get lost.
Does the drive withstand drops?
It complies with the MIL-STD-810G 516.6 military standard, which corresponds to drop tests from 1.22 metres: an accidental fall from a table or a bag does not put it out of action under normal conditions. The enclosure is made of aluminium alloy, which also dissipates heat during long copies of large files. ADATA nevertheless advises against dropping it on purpose.
Which devices does the SD810 work with?
It connects over USB Type-C to Windows 10 and 11, macOS 13 or later, Linux from kernel 6 and Android 13 or later. It also works with latest-generation game consoles to store games, after formatting when needed. On a phone, the device must support OTG and supply enough power to the drive. Games load faster than from a conventional hard drive.
What is in the SD810 box?
The 500 GB silver SD810 SSD, a USB-C to USB-C cable, a USB-C to USB-A cable for computers without a Type-C port, and a quick start guide. No power adapter is needed: the drive is powered through the USB port, at 5 V and 900 mA. It fits in a pocket at 72.7 × 44 × 12.24 mm and 41.7 g. The two cables cover recent ports as well as older ones.
Does the drive need formatting before use on a Mac?
Yes. ADATA states that formatting is required to use it on macOS 13 or later. Choose the file system according to your use: a format read by both Windows and macOS if the drive moves between computers. Formatting erases the contents: do it before copying your files onto it, not after. Game consoles sometimes also require their own formatting.
