The most telling ratio on this machine is this one: the tray holds 60 sheets and the black cartridge about 360 pages. So you will reload paper six times before having to touch the ink — and barely more than three times for the colour cartridge.
That is the reverse of a departmental machine's ratio, where a 500-sheet tray is filled four or five times per cartridge. In practice, on this DeskJet, the daily constraint is never the ink: it is the paper.
HP rates this machine at a maximum of 1,000 pages a month. That is not a recommended volume but a ceiling, and it is low — reached, it would mean almost three black cartridges in the month. In other words: beyond two or three hundred pages a month, this is no longer the right machine, and the cost of the cartridges ends up exceeding the saving made at purchase.
No Wi-Fi, no Ethernet: this 2135 plugs into one workstation and prints only what that workstation sends it. So nothing comes out without its user knowing — no mobile print launched from a phone, no job forgotten in a network queue. On a machine whose cartridges are counted in hundreds of pages, that is a useful guarantee.
