Does the Synology DS225+ NAS come with hard drives?
No. The DS225+ is a 2-bay enclosure sold without drives. You need to add 3.5" SATA (HDD) or 2.5" (SSD) drives; check the Synology compatibility list before buying the drives.
How much storage can the DS225+ hold?
Up to 40 TB of raw storage (2 × 20 TB drives). The actual usable capacity depends on the drives and the RAID configuration chosen.
Which RAID types does the Synology DS225+ support?
It supports Synology Hybrid RAID (SHR), RAID 0, RAID 1, Basic and JBOD. RAID 1 (mirroring across 2 drives) is recommended to protect your data against a drive failure.
What are the network and transfer speeds of the DS225+?
It has one 2.5GbE port and one 1GbE port (with failover), and reaches up to 282 MB/s sequential read and 217 MB/s sequential write.

No, this model has no M.2 slots. Storage is provided solely by the 2 SATA bays.
Is the Synology DS225+ NAS noisy?
No, it is very quiet — around 19.6 dB — thanks to its 92 mm fan, and compact (165 × 108 × 232 mm). It suits a living room as well as an office.
How many USB ports does the DS225+ have, and what are they for?
It has 2 USB 3.2 Gen 1 ports, useful for connecting an external drive (backup) or quickly copying data using the dedicated copy button.
Can the DS225+ be used for video surveillance?
Yes. With Surveillance Station, it manages up to 25 IP cameras (recommended, at 1080p) and supports more than 8,700 models. Two camera licences are included; beyond that, additional licences are required.
What backups and applications does the DS225+ support?
Running DSM, it offers Synology Drive (private cloud), Synology Photos, Active Backup (PCs, VMs, SaaS), Hyper Backup, synchronisation with Google Drive / Dropbox / OneDrive, and more. It can back up PCs, smartphones and cloud applications.
Is the Synology DS225+ new and under warranty?
