Frequently asked questions about this product
Is the Synology HAT3320 8 TB a CMR or SMR drive?
It is a conventional magnetic recording (CMR) drive, which ensures consistent write performance throughout its life — an important point for the RAID volumes of a NAS.
How fast is the Synology HAT3320 8 TB?
It spins at 7200 rpm and reaches a sustained sequential transfer rate of up to 281 MB/s, over a SATA 6 Gb/s interface in a 3.5-inch form factor.
Is this drive designed to run continuously, 24 hours a day?
Yes. It has an MTBF of up to 1.2 million hours and a high annual workload (up to 300 TB/year according to the datasheet), for continuous use in multi-user NAS environments.
Is the HAT3320 8 TB compatible with my Synology NAS?
It belongs to the Plus Series, tested and validated for home and small business Synology NAS units. Its firmware updates are carried out directly from DSM, without removing the drive.
Can it be used in a PC or an enclosure other than a Synology NAS?
Physically, it is a standard 3.5" SATA drive. That said, it is optimised and tested for Synology systems, where it performs best (DSM updates, faster RAID repairs, centralised support). That is its recommended use.
How much power does the HAT3320 8 TB drive consume?
Its typical power consumption is approximately 5.74 W at idle and 9.07 W in random read/write, depending on the configuration. Its operating temperature range is 5 to 60 °C.
Can I install several HAT3320 drives to create a RAID volume?
Yes, that is its intended use. The Plus Series is proven for 24/7 operation under multi-user workloads, and Synology announces faster RAID repairs than third-party drives of an equivalent class.
Is the Synology HAT3320 8 TB drive new and under warranty?
Yes, it is new and sealed, supplied with its invoice, which serves as the warranty document. The iris.ma warranty on this product is 1 year. For a business deployment, contact us through a quote request.
