Does this SSD survive a power cut in the middle of a write?
Yes. Dedicated capacitors supply enough energy to flush data still in transit to the flash memory at the moment of the power cut. That is what prevents volume corruption in an enclosure without backup power, and it is the protection you expect from a professional drive.
What endurance does this 3.84 TB SSD offer?
More than 7,000 TB written, calculated under the JESD219A enterprise workload. That is nearly two thousand complete fills of the drive: enough to handle transactional databases or virtualisation that constantly rewrite the same blocks.
Are the advertised 500 MB/s sustained, or only reached at peak?
Sustained. The 500 MB/s for both read and write are sustained speeds, measured at steady state according to SNIA specifications, not over a burst. That is also why read and write show the same figure, whereas a consumer drive collapses during prolonged writing.
How good are its random IOPS on a database workload?
90,000 random read IOPS and 30,000 write, on 4 KB blocks and, here again, at steady state. These small accesses are what size a transactional database or a virtualisation host, far more than sequential throughput.
How much power does it draw, and how much space does it take up in the enclosure?
4.5 W in active read, 5 W in active write and 1.2 W at idle, in a 2.5-inch, 7 mm thick housing. In an enclosure filled with spinning hard drives, the difference in power consumption and heat output is felt across the whole rack.
Does it need a specific version of DSM to get the most out of it?
Yes, for the monitoring features. Drive-by-drive lifespan analysis requires DSM 6.2.3-25426 or later, and automatic firmware updates require DSM 6.2.4-25556 or later. The drive works on earlier versions, but without these tools.
What workloads is this drive intended for?
Constant, mixed and intensive workloads: OLTP transactional databases, virtualisation deployments and critical applications in infrastructure that runs around the clock. Its purpose is to deliver consistent performance without eating into its endurance, not to break one-off records.
What temperature range does this SSD operate in?
From 0 to 70 °C in operation, and from -40 to 85 °C when powered off. Its end-to-end data protection also safeguards data integrity and consistency along the entire transfer path, from the controller to the flash memory.
Is the drive new, and how long is the warranty?
It is new and covered for 3 years, with your invoice serving as the warranty document. This cover ends at the end of the period or when the drive's endurance is used up, whichever comes first. The datasheet gives the details.
