Can Windows be transferred from the old drive without reinstalling everything?
Yes. ADATA provides a free migration utility designed for exactly that: it copies the contents of the entire drive, operating system included, to the SU650. You get your machine back just as it was, but it now boots from the SSD instead of the spinning hard drive.
Does this drive fit in a laptop's drive bay?
Yes. It measures 100.45 by 69.85 mm, is 7 mm thick and weighs 50.8 g: that is the slim 2.5-inch form factor used in laptop drive bays. In a tower, it fits in a 2.5-inch mounting position and connects to a SATA port on the motherboard.
Why does this SSD stop at 520 MB/s when others exceed 5,000?
Because it connects to the SATA 6 Gb/s bus, and that is the bus's practical limit: the SU650 sustains 520 MB/s read and 450 MB/s write, the maximum for this interface. Higher speeds require an M.2 NVMe module, and therefore a slot of that type on the motherboard.
What is the SLC caching on this SSD for?
It temporarily runs the 3D NAND memory in one-bit-per-cell mode, the fastest there is. This is what lets the SU650 sustain its 520 and 450 MB/s during transfers, downloads and start-up, rather than only over the first few megabytes of a copy.
Is this SSD reliable for a machine that runs continuously?
The stated mean time between failures is 2,000,000 hours, 25% more than older-generation SSDs with 2D memory. ECC error correction detects and corrects read errors, which preserves data integrity and extends the drive's lifespan accordingly.
Does it hold up better than a spinning hard drive in a laptop that gets carried around?
Yes, and there are figures to show it: it withstands shocks and vibration up to 1,500 G over 0.5 ms and operates from 0 to 70 °C. With no mechanical parts at all, it is also silent and very energy-efficient, two points that matter in a laptop as much as in a living-room PC case.
How can you monitor the SU650's wear once it is installed?
ADATA's free SSD Toolbox software reads the S.M.A.R.T. attributes and shows the drive's health, its wear level and remaining life, as well as its operating temperature and the space used. It also installs the latest firmware version.
Is the drive new, and how long is it under warranty?
It is new and covered for 1 year, with your invoice serving as the warranty document. This cover runs for the stated period or until the drive's write endurance is used up, whichever comes first: that is the rule ADATA sets for its SSDs, and SSD Toolbox lets you track this counter.
