Is the 960 GB faster than the 480 GB in the same series?
No, both are rated at 500 MB/s read and 450 MB/s write. What the 960 GB version brings is space and endurance: 300 TB of write endurance versus 160 TB. With the same usage, the larger drive will therefore last longer.
Can you transfer the entire contents of a 1 TB hard drive to it?
Almost: the advertised capacity is 960 GB, and part of it is reserved for formatting and internal functions, so the usable space is lower than that figure. Work out how much your current drive actually holds before deciding between replacing it and adding a second volume.
Can this A400 be used in a server or a NAS?
No. Kingston intends it for desktop and laptop computers, and explicitly advises against using it in server environments. It is, however, the ideal drive to replace the hard disk drive of an office tower or a laptop.
How much does it weigh, and does it fit in a laptop bay?
41.9 g for 100.0 by 69.9 mm and 7 mm thick: the 960 GB version is barely heavier than the smaller capacities and keeps the same thin 2.5-inch size, the one expected by laptop bays as well as tower bays.
How much data can be written to it in total?
300 TB, or more than three hundred complete fills of the drive — the highest figure in the A400 series. This endurance can be monitored as a percentage used in the Kingston SSD Manager application, which shows zero on a new drive.
How much power does it consume compared with a hard disk drive?
0.279 W on average and 0.195 W at idle, with peaks of 0.642 W when reading and 1.535 W when writing. With no motor to drive, it uses considerably less power and runs cooler: on a laptop, this translates directly into extra battery life.
Is multitasking really smoother after the upgrade?
It is the most commonly reported effect of switching to an SSD: the A400 is rated ten times faster than a hard disk drive, which shows in boot times, loading and switching between several open applications, where a mechanical drive has to move its head.
Is the drive new and under warranty?
