Is the 256 GB Wave(P) slower than the higher capacities?
For reading, slightly: 2,280 MB/s versus 2,500 on the 512 GB. For writing, it is the other way round — the 256 GB is rated at 1,800 MB/s whereas the 512 GB drops to 1,025 MB/s. In this series, moving up in capacity does not automatically improve speeds: each of the two sizes has its strong point.
How much power does this SSD draw once installed?
1.6 W maximum at this 256 GB capacity. It is one of the most frugal configurations in the series, which rises to 3.1 W on the 1 TB model. In a laptop, this difference shows both in battery life and in the heat given off inside the chassis, where air circulates poorly.
What do the advertised 90,000 and 320,000 IOPS represent?
They are the small 4 KB random accesses handled every second: 90,000 read and 320,000 write. These, more than sequential speeds, are what create the responsiveness you feel — system start-up, opening applications, installing updates.
How much data can be written before the drive wears out?
100 TB at this 256 GB capacity, or nearly four hundred complete fills. Mean time between failures is rated at 1,500,000 hours for the whole series. As the TRIM command is supported, the drive reclaims erased space and keeps its write speed over time.
Which machines can this SSD be installed in?
In any M.2 2280 slot — 22 mm wide, 80 mm long — wired for PCIe NVMe, in a tower or a laptop. Check the length the slot accepts and the position of the screw point before ordering: some compact chassis only take shorter modules.
Does this drive support TRIM?
Yes. TRIM tells the drive which blocks are no longer in use, allowing it to erase them in advance instead of at the moment of writing. This is what stops an SSD from slowing down as it fills up, and it is active with nothing to configure on a recent system.
Is this SSD vulnerable to shocks and drops?
No. It has no mechanical structure: everything goes through an electronic controller chip and 3D NAND memory. This is what makes it unaffected by drops and jolts, unlike a spinning hard drive, and it explains its weight of 7 g at most.
What temperature range does this SSD operate in?
From 0 to 70 °C in operation, and from -40 to 85 °C when powered off. This upper limit is judged from the drive's own S.M.A.R.T. attributes, not from the air temperature in the case: the internal sensor is what counts in knowing whether the module is working within its range.
Is the drive new and under warranty?
