Apacer AS2280P4 256 GB internal SSD in M.2 2280 format, PCIe Gen3 x4 NVMe: up to 2,100 MB/s sequential read and 1,000 MB/s sequential write, 3D TLC memory and endurance of more than 200 TB written.
M.2 NVMe internal SSD to give a laptop, desktop PC or mini PC a new lease of life: 256 GB, PCIe Gen3 x4 interface and 3D TLC memory. Speeds: up to 2,100 MB/s read and 1,000 MB/s sequential write Form factor: M.2 2280, 2.25 mm thick single-sided, 6.8 g Endurance: more than 200 TB written, 1.5 million hours MTBF Reliability: TRIM, S.M.A.R.T., wear levelling and power failure protection A fast, discreet system drive, instead of an old hard disk or a SATA SSD.
The AS2280P4 is a 6.8 g M.2 2280 module that talks NVMe over four PCIe Gen3 lanes. The operating system and software move off the hard disk onto 3D TLC flash memory, with no moving parts and no cables.

2.25 mmthick, single-sided
It slides into the motherboard, then screws down flat
In the M.2 2280 form factor, that is 22 mm by 80 mm, the AS2280P4 fits into the connector provided on the motherboard of a desktop PC, a laptop or a mini PC. It takes up no drive bay and needs no power cable: a good candidate to replace a laptop's original drive, or to add a second drive to a tower that is already full.
The module goes into the M.2 connector at an angle, then is secured with a screw.
The real figures of the 256 GB version
Apacer quotes 3,000 MB/s for the AS2280P4 range, but that figure applies to the 1 TB version. The 256 GB reads at up to 2,100 MB/s and writes at up to 1,000 MB/s sequentially, with 165,000 IOPS in 4 KB random reads.
A memory that keeps an eye on itself
The controller spreads wear across all cells, sets aside bad blocks, supports TRIM and reports its S.M.A.R.T. indicators. It also includes power failure management. Apacer rates the endurance at more than 200 TB written and the MTBF at 1.5 million hours.

Check that your computer's M.2 slot accepts NVMe SSDs in the 2280 format: a connector reserved for M.2 SATA SSDs will not recognise this drive. The range photos show the label of the 1 TB version.

Frequently asked questions about this product
Does this SSD work in any M.2 slot?
It needs an M.2 slot that accepts PCIe NVMe SSDs in the 2280 format, i.e. 22 mm wide and 80 mm long. An M.2 slot designed only for SATA SSDs will not recognise it: check the manual of the motherboard or laptop before buying.
What speeds does the 256 GB version reach?
Apacer quotes up to 2,100 MB/s sequential read and 1,000 MB/s sequential write for the 256 GB capacity, and up to 165,000 IOPS in 4 KB random reads. The 3,000 and 2,000 MB/s figures highlighted for the range apply to the 1 TB version.
What is its write endurance?
Apacer gives more than 200 TB written (TBW) for the 256 GB version, and an MTBF of 1.5 million hours. The controller handles wear levelling, bad blocks, TRIM and S.M.A.R.T. monitoring.
Is it thin enough for an ultraportable?
The single-sided version measures 80 × 22 × 2.25 mm and weighs 6.8 g; the double-sided version goes up to 3.5 mm thick. It suits thin laptops and mini PCs whose M.2 slot accepts this format.
What does the “-1” at the end of the reference AP256GAS2280P4-1 mean?
At Apacer, AP256GAS2280P4-1 designates the retail boxed version of the 256 GB AS2280P4 SSD; the reference without “-1”, AP256GAS2280P4, designates the bulk version intended for system integrators. The SSD itself is the same 256 GB model.
Under what temperature conditions can it be used?
Apacer specifies operation between 0 and 70 °C, at 5 to 95 % humidity, and storage between −40 and 85 °C. When not operating, it withstands a 1,500 G shock for 0.5 ms as well as vibrations from 20 to 2,000 Hz. These limits apply to all three capacities of the AS2280P4 range.
A host memory buffer (HMB) and an SLC cache take read speed to 2,200 MB/s and write speed to 1,600 MB/s. LDPC error correction, end-to-end data protection and the SP Toolbox utility to monitor drive health.
Around six times the speed of a SATA model: 3,300 MB/s claimed in read, for instant start-ups and application launches. 240 TB written endurance and a design with no moving parts, resistant to shocks.
An M.2 2280 NVMe SSD on PCIe Gen3 x4, available in 256 GB or 2 TB, reading at up to 3,500 MB/s. Its 3D NAND TLC memory handles 125 TB of writes on the 256 GB and 1,000 TB on the 2 TB: enough to revive a laptop or desktop PC that boots slowly.
Designed to run 24/7, it takes an array's cache to 3,000 MB/s read and 750 MB/s write. 491 TB written of endurance, end-to-end data protection and wear monitoring straight in DSM.
2,500 MB/s read and 1,025 MB/s write, with no moving parts at all: the shock- and drop-resistant design protects the data. 3D NAND memory and TRIM command support to hold the speeds over time.
280 TB written endurance, 3D NAND memory and ECC correction: a second drive built to last. Read up to 520 MB/s and write up to 450 MB/s, with no noise or vibration, in a desktop PC or a laptop.
Built for 3D rendering and 4K editing: 7,000 MB/s read, 3,900 MB/s write, Phison E18 controller and DRAM cache. The low-profile aluminium-graphene heatsink prevents throughput dropping under sustained load.
256-bit AES hardware encryption, TCG Opal and Microsoft eDrive: the data stays unreadable to anyone who gets hold of the machine. 550 MB/s read, 520 MB/s write over SATA 6 Gb/s.
7,200 MB/s read and 4,400 MB/s write in a 6 g module just 2.45 mm thick. 500 TB written endurance, no moving parts and proven resistance to shock and vibration.
