Does the 512 GB Wave(P) read faster than the 256 GB model in the series?
For reading, yes: 2,500 MB/s versus 2,280. For writing, no — it is rated at 1,025 MB/s whereas the 256 GB reaches 1,800 MB/s. So the 512 GB mainly brings more space and endurance, 120 TB written versus 100, rather than a speed gain across the board.
What do 55,000 and 225,000 IOPS mean in everyday use?
They are the small 4 KB random accesses handled every second, 55,000 read and 225,000 write. They matter more than sequential speeds for what you actually feel: system start-up, opening applications, installing updates, browsing large folders.
How much power does the 512 GB Wave(P) draw?
2.2 W maximum. That is the peak value under sustained writing; the rest of the time, the module draws less. Across the series, the range runs from 1.3 W for the 128 GB to 3.1 W for the 1 TB: power draw follows capacity, which matters in a laptop where air circulates poorly.
How many terabytes can be written to this 512 GB drive?
120 TB, or nearly two hundred and fifty complete fills of the drive. Mean time between failures is rated at 1,500,000 hours. As the TRIM command is supported, the drive frees erased space as it goes and keeps its write pace as it ages.
Why does the advertised 512 GB shrink once the drive is formatted?
Because the advertised capacity is an unformatted capacity, counted in decimal gigabytes: 1 GB equals 1,000,000,000 bytes. Once the file system is created, the space shown by the system is inevitably lower. The drive has lost nothing; it is the way of counting that differs.
What slot is needed to install this module?
An M.2 slot in the 2280 format, i.e. 22 mm wide by 80 mm long, wired for PCIe NVMe. It is the standard on recent motherboards and laptops. Locate the screw point: if it is 80 mm from the connector, the length is right.
Can this SSD handle the knocks of a laptop that gets carried around?
Yes. There is no mechanical structure inside: everything relies on an electronic controller chip and 3D NAND memory. This is what makes the module unaffected by drops and jolts, and it explains why it weighs no more than 7 g.
What temperature range does it operate in?
From 0 to 70 °C in operation, and from -40 to 85 °C when powered off. This upper limit is read from the drive's S.M.A.R.T. attributes, not from the air temperature inside the case: it is the module's internal sensor that tells whether it is working within its range.
Is the drive new and under warranty?
