What speeds does the 500 GB version of the LEGEND 860 offer?
5,000 MB/s read and 3,000 MB/s write. These are the figures specific to this capacity: the 6,000 and 5,000 MB/s quoted for the range apply to the 1 TB and 2 TB models. In a PCIe Gen4 x4 slot, that is already well above what any SATA SSD can reach.
How many terabytes of writes can this 500 GB version handle?
160 TB, or 320 complete fills of the drive. It is a minimum value: ADATA states it as the guaranteed minimum, not as a limit reached to the exact terabyte. The stated mean time between failures is 2,000,000 hours.
Can it be installed in a PlayStation 5 as expanded storage?
Yes. The form factor and the PCIe 4.0 interface match the console's M.2 expansion bay. Sony does point out that a drive exceeding its official specification will not necessarily deliver, in every game, the same performance as the PS5's built-in SSD.
Does it work on a motherboard that only supports PCIe 3.0?
Yes, it is backward compatible with PCIe 3.0. Speeds are then capped by the motherboard's bus rather than by the drive, which still remains far above a SATA SSD. The day you move to a Gen4 platform, the module delivers its full potential with nothing to change.
How thick is the module once the heatsink is fitted?
3.13 mm and 9.5 g with its heatsink, compared with 2.15 mm and 6.5 g without. Measure the clearance under your motherboard's M.2 shield or under the laptop cover: that extra millimetre is what decides whether the module fits in the slot.
Does this SSD have its own cache memory chip?
It relies on the Host Memory Buffer (HMB): rather than an onboard cache chip, it borrows a small portion of the PC's RAM to keep its mapping table there. An SLC caching algorithm supports the whole during write bursts.
Does this SSD withstand the shocks and heat of a compact machine?
It withstands shocks of 1,500 G over 0.5 ms and operates from 0 to 70 °C, with a storage range of -40 to 85 °C. With no moving parts, vibration does not affect it; in parallel, hardware LDPC error correction safeguards the accuracy of the data transferred.
How can you tell how much life the drive has left?
Using ADATA's free SSD Toolbox software. It reads the S.M.A.R.T. attributes and shows the drive's health, its remaining lifespan, its operating temperature and the space used. It also keeps the firmware up to date, on which the stated speeds depend.
Is the drive new, and how long is the warranty?
It is new and covered for 1 year, with your invoice serving as the warranty document. The full datasheet details speeds and write endurance capacity by capacity, from 500 GB to 2 TB.
