Frequently asked questions about this product
Is the module single-sided?
Yes, the NV3 in the 2280 form factor has a single-sided design. Nothing protrudes on the underside of the board, which opens up the tightest M.2 slots in thin laptops and small form factor PCs, where a double-sided module does not have room to fit.
What speeds can you expect from the 500 GB version of the NV3?
5,000 MB/s read and 3,000 MB/s write. These are the figures specific to this capacity: the 6,000/5,000 MB/s highlighted for the series apply to the 2 TB models and above. In a PCIe 4.0 x4 slot, that is already far above what a SATA SSD can reach.
How many terabytes of writes can this 500 GB drive handle?
160 TB, or more than three hundred complete fills of the drive. The stated mean time between failures is 2,000,000 hours. This endurance can be tracked as a percentage used in the Kingston SSD Manager application, which starts from zero on a new drive.
How thick is this module?
2.3 mm and 7 g, at 22 by 80 mm. It is one of the flattest profiles in the M.2 2280 form factor, which makes installation easier in a thin laptop or a compact case where the clearance above the slot is kept to a minimum.
Does this SSD run hot in a poorly ventilated case?
Kingston positions it as high-speed, low-power storage, highlighting reduced power consumption and heat output, presented as a way to optimise system performance without compromising value.
Is 500 GB enough for a system drive?
It is the entry point of the series, intended to hold the operating system, applications and a reasonable library of documents, photos or games. Kingston offers the NV3 in capacities up to 4 TB if you need more space without changing form factor or slot.
Does it withstand the jolts of a computer being carried around?
Yes. It tolerates 20 G of non-operating vibration, from 10 to 1,000 Hz, and has no moving parts: no motor or read head that could shift under an impact. Its operating range is 0 to 70 °C, and -40 to 85 °C when powered off.
Is the drive new and under warranty?
It is new, and your invoice serves as the warranty document, with free technical support from the manufacturer. The full datasheet gives speeds and endurance capacity by capacity, from 500 GB to 4 TB.
