Does this PCIe Gen4 SSD work on a PCIe 3.0 motherboard?
Yes. It is backward compatible with PCIe 3.0: on a third-generation motherboard, it runs at 3,400 MB/s read and 3,000 MB/s write, instead of 6,000 and 4,000. The gain over a SATA drive remains very large, and the module will carry over unchanged the day you move to a Gen4 machine.
Can the LEGEND 860 expand the storage of a PlayStation 5?
Yes. It is designed to fit in the console's M.2 expansion bay, and its PCIe Gen4 x4 interface matches what the PS5 expects. Sony does point out, however, that a drive faster than its official specification does not guarantee, in every game, performance identical to that of the console's built-in SSD.
Is the heatsink already fitted to the module?
Yes, and it brings the thickness to 3.13 mm and the weight to 9.5 g, compared with 2.15 mm and 6.5 g without it. Measure the clearance under your laptop's cover or under the motherboard's M.2 shield before ordering: that extra millimetre is what decides whether the module fits in the slot or not.
How much data can be written to this SSD before it wears out?
320 TB on the 1 TB version, the equivalent of 320 complete fills of the drive. The stated mean time between failures is 2,000,000 hours. The SSD Toolbox software shows at any time how much of this endurance has already been used and the remaining lifespan, so you do not have to guess.
What does HMB mean on this SSD, and what difference does it make?
HMB, for Host Memory Buffer, means the drive borrows a small portion of the PC's RAM to keep its mapping table there, instead of carrying its own cache chip. Combined with the SLC caching algorithm, this maintains write speed while keeping the module compact and power-efficient.
Is the 1 TB version as fast as the 2 TB model in the same range?
For reading, yes: 6,000 MB/s for both. For writing, the 1 TB is rated at 4,000 MB/s against 5,000 for the 2 TB, and its write endurance is 320 TB against 640. The difference therefore lies in sustained writing of very large files, not in boot times or game loading.
What temperature range can this SSD operate in?
From 0 to 70 °C in operation, and from -40 to 85 °C when powered off, for storage or transport. The built-in heatsink dissipates the heat produced under load, as a Gen4 interface works harder than a SATA SSD. The module also withstands shocks of 1,500 G over 0.5 ms, with no moving parts inside.
How do you monitor the wear and health of the LEGEND 860?
With ADATA's free SSD Toolbox software. It reads the S.M.A.R.T. attributes and shows the drive's health, its wear level, its remaining lifespan, its operating temperature and the space used. It is also used to install the latest firmware version, on which the stated speeds depend.
Is the drive new, and how long is the warranty?
