Does the DiskStation DS423 come with drives?
No, the drives are ordered separately. The four bays accept 2.5" or 3.5" SATA drives, up to 80 TB of total capacity. The NAS is supplied empty: your choice of drives determines capacity, noise and budget.
Is the DS423 a desktop or a rackmount model?
A desktop, tower-format model, weighing 2.21 kg empty. It sits on a shelf or under a desk, with no rack or rails needed — which is what sets it apart from the RackStation models intended for server rooms.
Is the DiskStation DS423 quiet?
It is rated at 20.6 dB(A) in operation — a very low level, comparable to that of a quiet room. This is what makes it possible to place it in an occupied office rather than a separate room. The noise of the drives you choose adds to this.
What happens if a drive in the DS423 fails?
Your data remains accessible. The NAS supports RAID 5, 6, 10 and Synology Hybrid RAID, which survive the loss of one drive — two in RAID 6. A failed drive is hot-swapped, without switching the device off.
How many cameras can the DS423 record?
Up to 30 IP cameras with Surveillance Station. The NAS then becomes a network video recorder, on top of its role as a file server and backup target for the office workstations.
Which processor powers the Synology DS423?

Which ports does the DiskStation DS423 have?
