Are drives included with the RS3626xs?
No, no drives are included: the 12 bays take 3.5-inch SATA hard drives or 2.5-inch SATA SSDs. For this model, Synology lists its Enterprise series HAT5300 drives and its SAT5200 SSDs. With 24 TB drives, raw capacity reaches 288 TB in the chassis alone, and 864 TB with two expansion units.
Is the RS3626xs the same product as the RS3621xs+?
No, they are two separate servers, and the RS3626xs carries no “+”. The RS3626xs is a 2026 model: six-core Intel Xeon D-1726, 8 GB of UDIMM memory, PCIe 4.0 slots and a dedicated out-of-band management port. The RS3621xs+ is an earlier model, with a Xeon D-1541: check the part number carefully before ordering.
Does the RS3626xs have M.2 slots for SSD cache?
Not internally: NVMe SSD cache is added with a card in one of the two PCIe 4.0 x8 slots, the M2D20 (two M.2 SSDs) or the E10M20-T1, which combines two M.2 SSDs and a 10 GbE port. The cache reduces latency and increases the IOPS of a hard drive array, without taking up a front bay.
How far can the RS3626xs memory be expanded?
Up to 48 GB: it comes with an 8 GB DDR4 ECC UDIMM module and has 6 slots, each accepting an 8 GB module (Synology part number D4EU02-8G). Memory determines volume size: above 108 TB, a volume requires 32 GB installed, to reach 200 TB.
Can the RS3626xs be managed remotely?
Yes, thanks to its dedicated out-of-band management port: you can turn the server back on, read its critical logs and diagnose a fault remotely, even when it is powered off. Its two 10 GbE RJ-45 ports stay reserved for data and can be aggregated to combine throughput or fail over automatically.
Which rail kit does the RS3626xs need?
The Synology RKS-02 sliding rail kit, sold separately, for a 4-post 19-inch rack. The RS3626xs takes up 2U but is 724 mm deep and weighs 14.5 kg without drives: check the usable depth of your cabinet and plan for two people for the installation.
How many cameras can the RS3626xs record?
Up to 90 IP cameras in 1080p with Surveillance Station, and as many in 4K with the H.265 codec. Two camera licences are included; additional ones are bought separately. At the same time, the server can back up the company's computers and servers and host up to 12 recommended virtual machines.
