Which lenses can be mounted on the EOS R10 besides the supplied 18-45 mm?
The mount is an RF mount: it natively accepts RF and RF-S lenses. EF and EF-S lenses, including those from an older Canon DSLR, can be fitted using the EF-EOS R mount adapter. However, EF-M lenses are not compatible: lenses from an EOS M will not fit this body.
Does the 18-45 mm frame like an 18-45 mm on a full-frame camera?
No. The APS-C sensor applies a 1.6x factor: the supplied zoom frames like a 29-72 mm in full-frame equivalent. The field of view is therefore narrower than on a full-frame camera, which brings distant subjects closer (sport, wildlife) but trims the wide angle. The same rule applies to any RF, RF-S, EF or EF-S lens mounted later.
Does the body have stabilisation, or does stabilisation come from the lens?
It comes from the lens: the EOS R10 has no sensor-shift stabilisation; compensation is provided by the lens (the supplied RF-S 18-45 mm is IS) or digitally. An older unstabilised prime lens will therefore get no optical stabilisation.
Does 4K/60p video use the full width of the sensor?
No: 4K/60p mode is cropped to 64% of the horizontal area, which noticeably tightens the framing. 4K/30p, on the other hand, is oversampled from 6K for the best image quality: keep 60p for footage where smoothness matters most.
What is the difference between 15 fps and 23 fps in burst mode?
15 fps is achieved with the mechanical shutter and 23 fps with the silent electronic shutter, with autofocus and exposure tracked on every frame in both cases. The electronic shutter can, however, distort the image depending on the subject or conditions, and the camera still emits certain sounds (aperture, focusing).
Can you shoot wide open in bright sunlight?
Yes, by switching to the electronic shutter: it goes up to 1/16,000 s, whereas the mechanical shutter stops at 1/4,000 s. That is enough to keep a wide aperture in bright light without overexposing. The full range runs from 30 s to 1/16,000 s depending on the mode.
Does the autofocus really track animals and vehicles?
Yes. Dual Pixel CMOS AF II, programmed through deep learning, recognises and tracks people (eyes, face, head, body), animals (dogs, cats, birds) and vehicles (racing cars, motorbikes), for both photos and video. Automatic selection draws on up to 651 zones covering 100% of the frame.
How high can the ISO go in the evening or in a dark interior?
Up to ISO 32,000 for photos, expandable to 51,200; for video, up to 12,800, expandable to 25,600. Focusing still works down to -4 EV: a concert, an evening wedding or a street at night are all within its reach.
Can the viewfinder be used without glasses?
Yes, if your prescription is between -3 and +1 dioptres: that is the range of the built-in dioptric adjustment, and the 22 mm eyepoint leaves room for frames if you prefer to keep them on. The OLED viewfinder displays 2.36 million dots over 100% of the field, at 60 or 120 fps as you choose.
