Frequently asked questions about this product

Why switch to fibre with the Ubiquiti F-POE-G2?
Because copper does not go beyond 100 metres. Past that distance, fibre takes over: data travels optically, power arrives over a separate cable, and the link is immune to both power surges and interference.
Is the PoE on the Ubiquiti F-POE-G2 802.3af standard?
No: it supplies 24 V or 50 V passive PoE, in Ubiquiti format, not standard 802.3af/at. This is the deciding point: a device expecting standard PoE will not work with it.
How do you power the Ubiquiti F-POE-G2 at the top of a mast?
Through a 2-wire DC terminal block, accepting a 16 to 57 V input. This wide range allows power from a battery, a solar panel or a DC bus already present on site.
Does the Ubiquiti F-POE-G2 protect against lightning?
It has a gas discharge tube on the DC terminal block and on the PoE port, as well as 24 kV electrostatic discharge protection on the Ethernet. On equipment at the top of a mast, it is induced surges that kill, more than a direct strike.
Do you need two Ubiquiti F-POE-G2 units to create a fibre link?
It depends on the use: it can be used on its own as a fibre-to-Ethernet converter, or in pairs to create a fibre bridge between two points. This is the first decision to make before ordering.
What is the power consumption of the Ubiquiti F-POE-G2?
1.5 W in typical use, and it operates from -40 to 60 °C. At this consumption, it barely weighs on a power budget supplied by a battery or solar panel.
How is the fibre connected to the Ubiquiti F-POE-G2?
To a 1 Gbps SFP port, with a built-in fibre cable guide under the cover. This guide prevents too tight a bend radius, the leading cause of signal loss on hastily installed fibre.
Is the Ubiquiti F-POE-G2 new and under warranty?
New, reference F-POE-G2, in original Ubiquiti packaging, in a weatherproof enclosure designed for installation at the top of a mast. The invoice serves as the warranty document for 1 year.
