Why buy a fax machine?

A fax machine is an electronic device used to send a physical document to a recipient by converting its image into electrical pulses, which are then transmitted to the recipient's fax machine over a telephone line. On arrival, the reproduced and printed document is exactly identical to the original.

Choosing the right fax machine:

There are two families of fax machines that are the most widely used:
Thermal transfer fax machines, which, unlike direct thermal fax machines, use plain paper. This type of fax has print heads with heating resistors and a heat-sensitive ink film (ribbon). During printing, the ink on the film is fixed onto the paper by the heat produced by the print head's resistors.
This type of fax has the advantage of being easy to use, compact and easy to maintain, and it produces high-quality copies.

Laser fax machines use the same technology as laser printers. They are generally used by businesses because of their many combined features and options.
They are also better suited to heavy use, unlike thermal fax machines, which tend to be used occasionally. A laser fax is fast and has the advantage of a lower cost per page.
A laser fax often doubles as a copier; it can also include an answering machine, have a good amount of storage memory and offer Wi-Fi connectivity so that several people can use it.

Whether thermal or laser, a fax machine is connected to a telephone line, so it can also have a handset and double as a telephone.

It is worth knowing that some multifunction printers also include a fax, for those who prefer a single device that does it all.
