The number that follows stands for a generation of machines, not for a colour or a capacity. The C-EXV 42 serves the imageRUNNER 2202, 2204 and 2206; a C-EXV 40 or 50 belongs to other series and will not fit, however alike the bottles look.
On a monochrome copier like this one there is nothing else to remember: one machine, one part number. That is the main comfort of this range compared with colour lasers, which call for four toners and sometimes a drum.
The imageRUNNER 2206 is an A3 copier: 22 pages per minute, automatic duplex, printing, copying and scanning. It is a departmental machine, standing in a corridor or a front office, and its main use remains copying — which uses toner exactly like printing.
A3 format doubles the printed area, and so the powder laid down. If your department copies a lot of drawings or wide tables in large format, expect a replacement pace well above that of an A4 machine of the same speed.
Almost. On this range the toner is a bottle of powder that is poured or clipped into a hopper, not a complete mechanical cartridge. The operation is simpler, but it has to be done with the machine switched on: the copier must recognise the new toner in order to reset its counter.
