Lexmark sells two cartridge regimes for the same machines, and the product name is the only place the difference appears. A Return Programme cartridge is sold on condition that it goes back to Lexmark once empty, to be remanufactured. An ordinary cartridge carries no obligation: it is entirely yours.

In practice, check the product name and not the number alone before confirming an order. Two part numbers can target the same machine, show the same 3,000-page yield, and not belong to the same regime. If your organisation cannot guarantee that empty cartridges will be sent back — because they leave with a cleaning contractor, for instance — it is the version without commitment you should ask for.

The cartridge itself is identical on the printing side: same powder, same yield, same quality. Only the rest of its life changes.

A volume of 500 to 6,000 pages a month

Lexmark quotes a very wide range and a maximum cycle of 50,000 pages. At the floor, a B235000 covers six months; at the ceiling, a fortnight. Only your counter reading tells you where you stand — the gap is twelve to one, and no general rule replaces it.

A printer on its own, well equipped

It prints, and only that: 36 pages per minute, built-in duplex, a 250-sheet cassette supplemented by a 100-sheet multi-purpose feeder, a 150-sheet output bin, Wi-Fi and Ethernet, and a small two-line OLED screen. Its multifunction version, the MB2338adw, adds the scanner, copying and fax — and takes exactly the same cartridge.
