Frequently asked questions about this product
Why does my computer show less than 128 GB on this flash drive?
This is normal and intended by the manufacturer: on flash memory, part of the nominal capacity is reserved for formatting and internal operation, and is therefore not available for your files. The usable space shown by the system is always less than the 128 GB stated on the packaging.
Is copying to the flash drive as fast as reading from it?
No, and the gap is clear: reading reaches 200 MB/s while writing tops out at 60 MB/s on the 128 GB version. Backing up several tens of gigabytes to the drive therefore takes much longer than reading them back afterwards. These speeds vary depending on the computer used.
Can I use it on a laptop that only has USB-C ports?
Its connector is USB Type-A, to the USB 3.2 Gen 1 standard: on a computer without a USB-A port, you need to use an adapter or a hub. The speed achieved also depends on the computer's hardware and software configuration.
Does it work as well on a Windows PC as on a Mac?
Yes. It is stated to be compatible with Windows 11 and 10, macOS 10.15 and later, Linux from kernel 4.4 and Chrome OS.
Without a cap, is the connector protected, and can it go on a key ring?
The casing is metal, one-piece and capless: so there is no longer a cap to lose. A key ring loop lets you attach it to a key ring, and at 4 g for 39 × 12.6 × 4.9 mm, it goes unnoticed in a pocket.
Can it be left in a car in the middle of summer?
It is rated to operate from 0 to 60 °C and to be stored from -20 to 85 °C. Its metal casing, sturdier than a plastic shell, better withstands the knocks of everyday use on the move.
Is the flash drive new and under warranty?
Yes: a new drive in its original packaging, supplied with its invoice, which serves as the 1-year warranty document. Details of speeds, capacities and compatibility are given in the Kingston datasheet (PDF).
