What is a router?

A router is a network device that routes data packets between two or more computer networks, working out the path the data should take and so interconnecting those networks.

Types of router:

First, there are two categories to distinguish: wired routers (generally aimed at businesses) and wireless routers, which communicate with devices over Wi-Fi and let them connect to the wired network they are linked to (in this case, the internet).
