Frequently asked questions about this product
Does this charger work with a laptop from a brand other than HP?
Yes, in the vast majority of cases. HP has validated this charger on its own laptops and states that it is compatible with devices that charge through a USB-C port, whatever their brand. It negotiates its output voltage (from 5 to 28 V) with the connected device: simply check that your PC accepts charging through its USB-C port.
Can I use it with a laptop that needs less than 140 W?
Yes, with no risk at all. The 140 W is a ceiling, not an imposed power: the charger automatically adjusts what it delivers to the machine's needs. An ultraportable that only needs 45 or 65 W receives only that power, and a more demanding laptop uses the headroom to charge faster while it works.
How long are the cables?
The USB-C cable, attached to the brick, is 1.8 m long: enough to reach a floor socket from a desk. The mains power cord, which connects the brick to the wall socket, is 1 m long and detachable. You can therefore coil it separately for travel, or replace it with a longer cord if the socket is far away.
Is the charger protected against overheating?
Yes. It includes protection against overvoltage, overcurrent and overheating, which cuts or limits the power before the brick or the computer is put at risk. It also complies with the IEC 62368-1 safety standard, the international standard governing the safety of IT and audio-video equipment.
Is it easy to take on the go?
The brick measures 138 × 65.5 × 28.5 mm and weighs 440 g: a reasonable footprint for 140 W of power, and the mains cord detaches to be stored separately in the bag. Used as a second charger, it lets you leave the original one plugged in at the office: nothing left to unplug or forget before heading to a meeting.
What is in the box?
The box contains the AC adapter, with its 1.8 m USB-C cable attached to the brick, and the detachable one-metre mains power cord that plugs into the wall socket. There is no plug adapter or extra cable: the charger connects directly to the USB-C port of the laptop or device to be charged.
