Is the advertised 90 MB/s a read or a write speed?
Read. It is the advertised read speed of the UV128, over a USB 3.2 Gen 1 (USB 5 Gbps) interface, referred to as USB 3.0 in the specifications.
Is there a cap, and is there a risk of losing it?
No, the UV128 does without one. The connector is housed inside the casing, fully protected, and slides out with a push of the thumb; the reverse movement retracts it for storage or travel. One hand is enough, with no cap to misplace.
Can it be used with a TV, a car stereo or a console?
Yes. The UV128 is stated to be compatible with PCs, tablets, smart TVs, in-car entertainment systems, game consoles and home cinema systems. As a bonus, the retractable connector means no cap to keep track of behind a TV cabinet or in a car.
Do you need to install a driver on Windows, macOS or Linux?
No, no driver is required. It is recognised natively on Windows (from XP to 10), on Mac OS X 10.6 or later and on Linux from kernel 2.6: you plug it in and it appears as a removable drive.
Is the lanyard shown in the images included?
No: the strap accessory shown in the images is not included. The drive does have a strap hole to attach it to a key ring or a phone, but the cord must be obtained separately.
How does it hold up over time at the bottom of a bag?
Its plastic body has a matte scratch-resistant and smudge-resistant texture. The size stays compact — 60 × 20 × 9 mm and 10 g — and there is no cap to keep an eye on, as the connector retracts into the casing. The series comes in black and blue.
Is backup software supplied with the UV128?
Yes, Backup ToGo. It backs up your data on the schedule you set, to a local hard drive, a mobile device or the cloud, from a single interface.
