That is this variant's distinctive feature, and it decides its real consumption: there is no automatic feeder. Every page to be copied is laid on the glass by hand, lid up, lid down.
On a copier with a feeder, a stack of fifty pages goes in a single action, and the action gets repeated without a thought. Here, every copy costs a movement: the volume of copies falls away naturally, and the toner lasts all the longer. It is an ergonomic shortcoming that reads as a saving — and it explains why two otherwise identical machines do not wear their cartridges at the same rate.
The yield is of quite another order than an office laser's, which runs to one to three thousand pages. The practical consequence is not the cost but memory: between two orders, nobody remembers the part number. Note C-EXV 42 in the inventory or on a label inside the cover, and order at the low-level warning — there are always several hundred pages left afterwards.
This machine has no automatic duplex. As with copying, it is the action that limits use rather than a setting. And as always, duplex concerns only the paper: the number of pages printed, and so the powder used, does not change one bit.
