The EcoTank L6270 is refilled with Epson 101 bottles: a 127 ml black and three 70 ml colours. The machine leaves the factory with enough to print about 14,000 pages in black and 5,200 in colour — several years of ordinary use before the first refill.

On a laser multifunction, the document feeder is the leading source of consumption: a stack of thirty originals means thirty pages of toner, and toner is expensive per page. On a tank machine, the reasoning reverses.
An EcoTank's cost per page is counted in centimes, sometimes less. Copying twenty pages does not visibly dent a 127 ml tank designed for thousands of prints. That is precisely the appeal of this version fitted with an automatic feeder: you can copy without thinking about it, which is true of no office laser multifunction.
The trade-off lies elsewhere — in regularity of use, not in volume.
A tank machine copes badly with standing still. After several weeks without printing, it runs a nozzle cleaning cycle that draws on all four tanks at once, with no page coming out. On an EcoTank, that cleaning costs far more than copying.
The rule is simple and worth more than any other advice: print one colour page a week. It is the most profitable habit anyone can adopt with this kind of machine, and it costs nothing.
An automatic document feeder, an Ethernet port, a 250-sheet tray instead of 100, a 6.1 cm colour screen and a higher rate — 15.5 pages per minute to the ISO standard against 10.5. The ink is strictly the same as on the L4260: same 101 bottles, same capacities.
⚠ Mind the number when ordering: the Epson 101, 102, 103 and 104 series look alike and are not interchangeable. An EcoTank tank cannot be drained.
