Which toner fits the HP LaserJet Enterprise M806dn?

A machine with no trade-off: the only cartridge is already the big one

On most lasers, the real question is "standard or high capacity". It does not arise here: this enterprise A3 machine is sold with a single toner part number, and it is already an X format. That fits what it is — 56 pages per minute, two 500-sheet trays and a 100-sheet multi-purpose tray — but it means no saving is to be found on the choice of cartridge.

34,500 pages against 10,000 to 50,000 a month

HP recommends a volume of 10,000 to 50,000 pages a month for this machine. The two bounds give very different rhythms: at the floor, a 25X covers three and a half months; at the ceiling, it does not last three weeks. In a department printing at that level, the spare stock is therefore not a comfort but an operational necessity — a shortage costs more there than a cartridge.

The maximum cycle of 300,000 pages does not compare with those figures: it says what the mechanism takes occasionally, not the pace it sustains month after month.

An A3 page counts as two pages in the yield

The stated 34,500 pages are measured in A4. Output mostly in A3 — which this machine takes on all three trays, up to RA3 — doubles the area covered, and so the powder laid down: the same toner will yield roughly half as much. That is the first gap to check when a cartridge seems to run out too fast.
