Most laser printers are set down once and for all. This one travels, and that is its appeal: Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, under four kilos, no heavy installation. You put it away, take it out again, take it with you.
Good news for the consumable: a toner takes that in its stride. The powder is dry, it neither leaks nor dries out — which is exactly what an inkjet would not put up with, neither the transport nor the weeks of standing idle between uses. One precaution only: carry the machine flat, never on its side, so the powder does not spill into the mechanism.
It is rated for 500 pages — a starter toner, barely more than half a replacement 150A. That is not a fault, it is the rule on this range, and it means two things: your first replacement will come sooner than expected, and the next toner will last almost twice as long as the one you have known.
As the M111w is often used in spells, it is common to keep a toner in reserve for months. Store it in its sealed packaging, away from light and at room temperature: kept that way, a toner lasts for years without losing its qualities. Out of its bag, what it fears most is direct light — the photosensitive drum it carries degrades within minutes of sun exposure.
The M111a takes exactly the same 150A; only the connectivity differs. Do beware of the 151A, though, so close in print, which serves the LaserJet Pro 4003 and does not fit here.
