Which toner fits the HP LaserJet P2035?

What the toner explains, and what it does not

The 05A holds both the powder and the photosensitive drum. A new cartridge therefore corrects, in one go, every image fault: pale pages, light bands, recurring spots, grey background.

It corrects nothing to do with the paper, however. On a P2035, the following symptoms almost always come from the feed rollers, hardened over the years:

• the machine picks up two sheets at once, or none;
• paper comes in askew and creases in the path;
• jams multiply while print quality has not changed.

Changing the toner in those cases is pointless. The separation roller and the pickup roller can be replaced, and it is a routine job on these models.

A simple machine, and that is its strength

Printing only, 30 pages per minute, a USB port, no screen, 16 MB of memory. None of that ages badly: the P2035 has no Wi-Fi to update, no touchscreen to replace, no app to maintain. One point to know all the same: with 16 MB, a very heavy document — a drawing, a page saturated with images — can exceed the memory and come out truncated. That is not a lack of toner but a lack of memory; reducing the resolution in the driver usually settles it.

Should a spare toner be kept?

A toner keeps for years in its sealed packaging, away from light. On a machine still doing service after fifteen years, keeping a spare cartridge makes sense — all the more so as these older part numbers grow scarce before disappearing. The CP5225, of the same age, is another example: its original toner remains available.
