A single-sheet feed slot

The specification sheet lists two trays: the main one, of 250 sheets, and a single-sheet priority slot. The second comes as a surprise, and yet it is one of the machine's most useful features.

It is there to feed one isolated sheet without touching the main tray: an envelope, a label, headed paper, a heavy cover. The sheet placed in it is taken first on the next job. Without it, printing an envelope would mean emptying the 250 ordinary sheets, loading one, then putting everything back.

On the consumable side it changes nothing about the count: one printed envelope is one page of toner. But it avoids the mistake that costs: forcing heavy media through the main tray, where the more curved path bonds the powder badly and leaves the print marking under a finger.

How long does a set of 222A last?

HP recommends a volume of 150 to 2,500 pages a month. At the bottom of that range, a 222A black covers more than eight months; at the ceiling, a fortnight or so. Duplex is on by default, which halves paper consumption while changing nothing about toner: two sides count as two pages.

The maximum cycle reaches 40,000 pages, but it describes only a mechanical limit.

A colour machine that fits on a desk

At 13.8 kg and a small footprint, the 3203dw is a colour laser you can put on a shared work surface — still rare in this class. It turns out 25 pages per minute in black and in colour alike, connects over dual-band Wi-Fi or Gigabit Ethernet, and shows its state on a small backlit 2-inch screen. It has neither scanner nor fax: that is what separates it from the MFP 3303 models, which nonetheless take the same cartridges.
