Can the DS-730N scan without a computer switched on?
Yes. It works standalone on the network: its 1.44-inch colour screen and its 3 quick-send buttons start scanning to email, a folder, an FTP or SFTP server, cloud services or Microsoft applications. Programmable profiles send each document to the right folder; some of these functions rely on Epson software.
Which papers does it accept, and can it take plastic cards?
From 27 to 413 g/m². It handles A4 to A6, B4 to B6, Letter, Legal, postcards, business cards, DL envelopes and plastic cards, up to a width of 215.9 mm. The automatic document feeder takes 100 sheets at a time, so you are not reloading every ten pages.
Can it scan a document longer than an A4 sheet, such as a computer printout?
Yes, up to 6 metres long (6,096 mm), with a maximum width of 215.9 mm. Long printouts, till receipts and continuous documents therefore go through as a single file, without cutting them up first. The maximum optical resolution is 600 dpi.
Can you scan a book or a bound document?
No. It is a sheet-fed scanner: the pages must pass through the automatic document feeder. For a book, a passport or a stapled file, you need to separate the sheets or add a flatbed scanner alongside it. In return, it works through batches of 100 sheets unattended.
How can you be sure no page is skipped during a batch?
Ultrasonic sensors detect double feeds, an active separation system stops sheets from going through stuck together, and dust detection completes the set-up. Every document is thus scanned, with no gaps in the archived file.
Can you scan envelopes or sheets with labels stuck on them?
Yes. Double-feed detection can be switched off at the press of a button, which eliminates false alerts on delicate media such as envelopes or documents carrying labels. Accepted paper weight goes up to 413 g/m².
How do you scan old or fragile documents without damaging them?
A slow scanning mode controls the feed speed to protect fragile documents, without increasing the file size. An original protection sleeve is available as an option (reference B12B819051). The scanner also accepts thin paper from 27 g/m².
Do the feed rollers wear out, and can they be replaced?
Yes: a Roller Assembly Kit (B12B819671) and a cleaning kit (B12B819291) are among the optional accessories. Enough to maintain, over the long term, a machine rated for 4,500 pages per day.
Which cables are included in the box?
The box contains the unit, the AC adapter and its power cable, a USB cable, the driver and utilities CD, the setup instructions and the warranty card. The USB 2.0 Type-B connection is therefore covered out of the box; you will need an RJ45 cable to use it over Ethernet.
Do the 40 pages per minute also apply in duplex?
Yes, and that is its strong point: 40 pages/min, i.e. 80 images/min in A4 at 200/300 dpi, with both sides captured in a single pass, at the same speed in black and white and in colour. The recommended volume reaches 4,500 pages per day, enough to handle the batches of an entire department.
Is the Epson DS-730N scanner new and under warranty?
