Frequently asked questions about this product

Which replacement toners does the HP 3303fdw take, and are high-capacity versions available?
Four separate HP LaserJet 222 toners, one per colour: you only replace the one that has run out. Two tiers:
  • 222A — W2220A black (approx. 1,300 pages), W2221A cyan, W2222A yellow, W2223A magenta (approx. 1,200 pages each);
  • 222X high capacity — W2220X black (approx. 3,200 pages), W2221X cyan, W2222X yellow, W2223X magenta (approx. 2,500 pages each).
Can I use compatible non-HP toners?
There is no guarantee they will work: dynamic security is enabled, a technology that may prevent cartridges with non-HP chips or circuitry from working, now or in the future. Stick with genuine HP 222A or 222X toners; used ones can be recycled through HP Planet Partners.
Does automatic duplex printing slow printing down?
Yes. The 25 ppm rating applies to single-sided printing, in black and colour alike, and drops to 15 ppm in duplex. Duplex is also enabled by default to save paper: a setting to change if you expect single-sided output. First page out in 10.9 s in black and 11.0 s in colour from ready.
What monthly volume is this multifunction printer designed for?
150 to 2,500 pages per month for printing and 150 to 1,500 pages for scanning: these are the recommended volumes, and the right benchmark for an office team. The duty cycle of 40,000 pages is a maximum, not a sustained pace; beyond that, look at a higher-class machine.
Can a second paper tray be added to go beyond 250 sheets?
No, the capacity cannot be expanded: 2 trays, both as standard and at most, namely the 250-sheet main tray plus a single-sheet priority tray — 251 sheets in total, with no optional module. The document feeder takes 50 sheets and the output tray stacks 100 sheets at 75 g/m².
Does it accept envelopes, labels, glossy paper and postcards?
Yes, from 60 to 163 g/m², up to 176 g/m² for postcards and 200 g/m² for glossy paper: transparencies, labels, envelopes, cardstock, pre-punched, recycled, rough or letterhead paper, in custom sizes from 76 × 127 mm to 216 × 356 mm. Two limits: 10 envelopes per load and a 10 mm stack for transparencies.
Is it better to scan from the glass or from the automatic document feeder?
The glass for detail: 1,200 dpi versus 300 dpi through the feeder. The feeder for volume: 19 ppm in black and 8 in colour, but only in A4, Letter and Legal, with an original of at least 148 × 210 mm. Either way, output is in JPG, PDF, PDF/A or TIFF.
Which cables and software are included, and which systems does it work with?
A USB cable is included, along with the power cable, the toner and the guide. The RJ-45 network cable, however, is not in the box: have one ready for an Ethernet connection. The software is downloaded, and installing it requires an Internet connection and 2 GB of disk space. Compatible with Windows 11/10 and Server, macOS 12 to 15, Linux, Android and iOS, with AirPrint, Mopria, HP Smart and Wi-Fi Direct.
Can the 512 MB of memory be upgraded later?
No: 512 MB, both as standard and at most, not expandable. This matters little for office work, as processing relies on a 1.2 GHz processor and on languages handled by the machine itself — HP PCL6, PostScript, PCL5, PDF — with 111 built-in TrueType fonts.
Can it be integrated into a secure corporate network?
Yes: 802.1X authentication on the 10/100/1000 Gigabit Ethernet port, TCP/IPv4 and IPv6, DHCP and DNS. On the administration side: unique administrator password, role-based access control (RBAC), USB port enable/disable, session timeouts and WebScan disabled by default. The fleet can be managed with HP Web Jetadmin.
What power consumption and noise level should I expect in a shared office?
416 W when printing, but 7.6 W when ready, 0.95 W in sleep mode and 0.05 W when off, thanks to HP Auto-On/Auto-Off — that is 0.338 kWh per week in Energy Star typical consumption. As for noise, 51 dB(A) sound pressure for 6.3 B(A) sound power. Install it between 15 and 30 °C and at 30 to 70% humidity.
Is the printer new, and how long is the warranty?
Yes, new and genuine (part number 499M8A), supplied with its invoice, which serves as the warranty document for 1 year. Full specifications are in the 3303 series datasheet (PDF).
