Frequently asked questions about this product

Can the HP DesignJet T850 scan large-format drawings?
Yes, it is a multifunction device: it prints, copies and scans up to 914 mm wide by 2.77 m long. On its own, it therefore replaces a plotter and an A0 scanner — two bulky machines, and two budgets.
Where can the HP DesignJet T850 send its scans?
To an email, a network folder, a USB flash drive, the cloud, a computer or a mobile device via the HP app. Scanning uses a CIS sensor at up to 600 dpi, with paper jam detection.
What is the print speed of the HP DesignJet T850?
25 seconds per A1 page, or 90 A1 prints per hour. That is a design-office pace: a full set of drawings comes out during the meeting that asks for it, with no need to plan ahead the day before.
Which ink cartridges does the HP DesignJet T850 use?
The HP 738 — cyan, magenta, yellow and matte black — as well as the HP 738B in black, available in 130 ml and 300 ml. The printhead, for its part, is replaced with the HP 739 kit: it is a wear part, not a lifetime component.
Are HP DesignJet T850 prints water-resistant?
Its four inks are pigment-based — cyan, magenta, yellow and matte black. A pigment ink lays colour particles on the surface rather than a dissolved dye: that is what gives drawings their resistance to water and light.
Does the HP DesignJet T850 cut the paper automatically?
Yes, it has an automatic horizontal cutter and an output bin. It accepts roll, cut-sheet feeding and a 50-sheet input tray — enough to run A4 and A3 jobs back to back without reloading.
What sheet sizes does the HP DesignJet T850 accept?
From 210 x 279 mm to 914 x 1,676 mm for single sheets, and from 210 x 279 to 305 x 457 mm through the input tray. The non-printable margin is 5 mm on all four sides, for sheets and rolls alike.
What media can the HP DesignJet T850 print on?
Bond and coated paper, natural tracing paper, clear and matte film, satin or glossy photo paper, matte and glossy adhesive media and polypropylene. The versatility you expect from a machine that turns out a drawing as readily as a site poster.
How do you connect the HP DesignJet T850 to the network?
Via Gigabit Ethernet or Wi-Fi. HP Click software is supplied for Windows and macOS, and the HP app covers Windows, macOS, Android and iOS: jobs can therefore be sent from a mobile device, on site as well as in the office.
How fast does the HP DesignJet T850 scan?
Up to 3.81 cm/s in colour and 11.43 cm/s in greyscale, at 200 dpi. The threefold gap between the two is decisive: to archive a collection of old drawings, scanning in greyscale cuts the working time by three.
How much space does the HP DesignJet T850 take up?
1,407 x 701 x 967 mm at its minimum dimensions, for 60 kg. The shipping box weighs 83.5 kg and is 1.575 m long: plan for two people and a clear path to the machine's final location.
