Is the Viper V3 HyperSpeed charged with a cable?
No: it runs on one AA battery, not a rechargeable battery. The advantage is battery life — up to 280 hours of non-stop competitive gaming on a single battery — and an instant swap when it runs flat, without putting the mouse out of action. The drawback is that you need to keep spare batteries to hand.
How does it connect, and can its dongle be shared with a keyboard?
It connects through a Razer HyperSpeed USB dongle, a wireless link billed as ultra-low latency. Once the feature is enabled, this dongle can also drive a second compatible Razer HyperSpeed device — typically a wireless keyboard — which frees up a USB port on a laptop that is short of them.
Is the 8,000 Hz polling rate available out of the box?
No. The mouse is upgradable to a wireless polling rate of 8,000 Hz, but this requires the Razer HyperPolling dongle and its cable, sold separately. As supplied, it works with its HyperSpeed dongle, which already provides an ultra-low-latency wireless link.
Are my settings kept if I plug the mouse into another PC?
Yes. The onboard memory stores the last Razer Synapse profile used: DPI, polling rate and lift-off distance. It is indeed the last profile that is saved, not a full library: move the dongle to another computer and you get that particular setting back.
Can it be used directly on a glass desk, without a mouse mat?
Yes, provided the glass is at least 4 mm thick. On top of that, the Focus Pro 30K sensor calibrates itself automatically from one surface to another thanks to smart tracking, which keeps the lift-off distance consistent. So you can move from a glass desktop to a cloth mat without redoing your settings.
Can the sensor's lift-off height be finely adjusted?
Yes, and far more finely than on the previous generation: the asymmetric cut-off lets you set the lift-off distance and the landing distance separately, across 26 levels of adjustment versus 3 before. This is the setting that stops the cursor from moving on when you lift the mouse to re-centre it.
What does Motion Sync do on this mouse?
Motion Sync times the sensor's position reports to the exact moments when the PC reads them. You always get the freshest position, which makes tracking more consistent when aiming fast. The feature complements the smart tracking and asymmetric cut-off of the Focus Pro 30K sensor.
How many buttons can be programmed, and do the clicks hold up over time?
8 programmable controls, including 6 dedicated to macros and shortcuts, configurable in Razer Synapse. The Razer Gen-2 mechanical switches behind them are rated for 60 million clicks, with gold-plated contact points to better resist wear.
Does this shape suit the way I hold a mouse?
It is optimised for claw and fingertip grips: flatter side walls to fit different hand sizes, pronounced finger grooves, a ledge under the ring finger that prevents pinching, and a raised hump shifted towards the back. The side buttons have been redesigned to stay within easy reach.
Is the mouse new and under warranty?
