How long is the UNV network cable reel?
305 metres — the standard length of a cabling reel, intended to wire a building from end to end. It is not a ready-to-use patch cable: it is cut and crimped on site, one outlet at a time.
Is this network cable pure copper?
No: it is CCA, copper-clad aluminium, containing 19 to 23% copper. CCA conducts less well than pure copper and handles power over the cable less well: this is a point to check before cabling PoE equipment.
What category and gauge is this UNV cable?
Category 6, UTP — unshielded twisted pairs — with an AWG23 conductor 0.56 mm in diameter. AWG23 is the gauge expected for Category 6: it determines whether the speeds are achieved over 90 metres.
Has this cable been tested over the standard length?
Yes, validated by Fluke testing over 90 metres — the maximum length of a horizontal link in structured cabling. That is the reference distance: beyond it, the standard is no longer guaranteed, whatever the quality of the cable.
What are the rip cord and the pair separator for?
The rip cord opens the jacket without the risk of nicking the conductors with a cutter; the pair separator keeps the four pairs apart, which limits crosstalk. Two details that save time on every outlet you crimp.
Can this network cable be installed outdoors?
It is rated for indoor use, with a range of −20 °C to +75 °C. Its insulation is HDPE and its jacket white PVC: a standard PVC jacket is not designed for permanent exposure to ultraviolet light.
