How long does it take to shred the 550 sheets in the feeder?
13 minutes for the maximum capacity. You put the stack in, a single tap on the touchscreen starts the cycle, and the machine works unattended: that is the whole point of auto feed compared with a conventional shredder you have to feed sheet by sheet.
Do you need to remove staples and paper clips before loading documents?
No. The AutoMax 550C automatically handles staples, paper clips, crumpled or folded paper, double-sided prints and glossy media. Credit cards and CDs, for their part, go through the manual feed slot.
What is the manual slot for if the feeder already takes 550 sheets?
It takes up to 14 sheets at a time and is used for immediate shredding and for media the feeder does not handle, namely credit cards and CDs. Handy for getting rid of two or three documents without starting a full cycle.
Is DIN P-4 level enough for confidential documents?
Each sheet is reduced to 4 × 38 mm particles by cross-cut. This DIN P-4 level is the one chosen for the confidentiality of sensitive documents, on a machine designed for intensive use by 5 or more users.
Can you stop anyone from going through the shredder bin?
Yes: the bin locks with a 4-digit PIN code. Once the documents are shredded, nobody can get at the particles without the code — a point that matters when the machine is installed in a corridor or a shared print room.
What happens if the paper jams?
The Auto Reverse system stops shredding and automatically engages reverse to clear the stack.
Can it run in an open-plan office without disturbing everyone?
It features SilentShred technology, designed for ultra-quiet operation, and goes into sleep mode automatically when not in use. A 550-sheet cycle can therefore be started in the middle of the working day, without waiting for the evening.
How much floor space should you plan for, and can it be moved?
Allow about 89 × 44 × 58 cm and more than 33 kg: this machine stands on the floor, not on a desk. It is mounted on castors so it can be wheeled from one department to another, and its 83-litre bin pulls out for emptying.
Is the shredder new and under warranty?
Yes: the AutoMax 550C (reference 4963101) is new, in its original packaging and supplied with its invoice, which serves as the 1-year warranty document. Details of capacities and accepted media are given in the datasheet (PDF).
