What does P-5 security level actually protect?

The 450M reduces each page to 2 × 12 mm micro-particles, that is up to 2,599 pieces from a single A4 sheet — about 10 times smaller than with a standard cross-cut. This is DIN P-5, the high-confidentiality level.

Can you shred a large pile of archives in one go?

Not continuously: the duty cycle is 10 minutes of shredding followed by 45 minutes of rest. To clear out archives, plan several sessions over the day: the machine is rated for moderate use, by 1 to 3 users.

How many sheets actually go through at once?

9 sheets of standard 70 g/m² paper per pass, at a speed of about 2.1 m/min. The entry slot is 220 mm wide: an A4 sheet goes in by its 210 mm side, with no need to fold it.

Do you need to remove staples before feeding a document?

No. The 450M takes staples and also shreds credit cards and CDs/DVDs. A stapled file therefore goes in as it is, and the same machine can dispose of an expired bank card or a backup disc.

Is feeding automatic, or do you have to stay by the machine?

Feeding is manual: you insert sheets in batches of 9 at most, and there is no auto-feed tray able to process a ream unattended. That is how a desk shredder designed for 1 to 3 users works.

What happens if the paper jams?

The Auto-Reverse function deals with it: the machine stops and pushes the paper back out automatically. Keeping to the limit of 9 sheets per pass remains the best prevention.

Is it disruptive in a shared office?

It features SilentShred technology, designed to reduce noise in shared workspaces. It is intended for 1 to 3 people, in the office as well as when working from home.

Is the bin easy to empty and the machine easy to move?

The 22-litre bin pulls out. The whole unit weighs 10.39 kg for 56.5 × 35.1 × 26 cm and stands on castors, so it can be moved without lifting it.

Is the Fellowes 450M shredder new and under warranty?

Yes: a new machine, supplied with its invoice, which serves as the warranty document for 1 year. Its manufacturer reference is 4074101: quote it for any after-sales service request. It is sold individually, one machine per box.
